They did.  I always had whatever I wanted.  One of my favorite activities as a child was going to the Museum of Natural History or going to the park and collecting as many different leaf specimens as I could from different trees and then labeling them.  I also loved reading my Deep Sea books as those always intrigued me.  I found it amazing that the depths contained many species which never have been discovered.

Artifact hunting was also an activity I liked to.  And playing with my Commodore!
