To a point. Every freak record-breaking pull is performed with a style far from what's deemed "correct".

At a certain poundage, pristine technique will deteriorate into a physical exertion of absolute will and physical toughness. The latter will determine whether the former yields injury or arms raised in triumph.

Fortress, what do you think of Janae/Matt Kroc claiming in an interview on T-mag today that he qualified for the Arnold natural, with a bench in the 500's, if I recall correctly, and a bodyweight of 260-something at 5'9" (and not fat at that)?

You are thinking like a bodybuilder.  Powerlifters are after finding their true 1rm.  Don't get me wrong, form is very important, but it will always degrade during a 1rm, that why the better your form at lower weights, the less form you lose when performing a 1rm.

Pulled 440 pounds this morning. No wraps, no belt, no chalk.  Nothing flash but good for an old man.

    I stopped caring about deadlifts after my two herniated cervical discs. I can only tell youngsters to avoid them or at least use very moderate weights, just to get a pump.
    But i do give props to the few heavy lifters.

You didn't hurt your back deadlifting, did you?

Bastard! Just the once.  I did film it, won't post it here, but I had to do it twice because the guy filming didn't actually hit record the first time I pulled it.  This is only my second time trying a 1rm.  First time I pulled a 190kg.  I have never trained for strength before so I am happy enough with that.

I see a few guys going above 315 DL. I have a lot of work to do on form but that's not a lot of weight.

Big deadlifts generally don't get the same recognition as squats and benches mainly because most can't relate to them like they can with the other two given their 225 benches and 315 half squats.

squats = under the bar

bench = UNDEr the bar

Deads = just pulling shit off the floor

when youre under the bar it takes alot more, plus you have to keep it in your routine to be able to squat or bench alot and it shows usually, you have a big chest or shapely legs - but a heavy dead? i see rednecks in Hickory pull 4 plates and just slam it back on the ground as hard as they can -- with bench or squat you cant just totally disreguard the eccentric movement or you pay

why deads are halfass and not admired but most - bench/squats = white collar

deads= blue collar/';redneck lift (but i do them alot now and like them)

No Thanks, Happy to be flamed on and called a pussy.  I save it for my social media pages, mainly my brother who I have a bit of a rivalry with, he is six years older than me but still lifting.

lol highly insightful post

have to agree deads are definitely a "blue collar" lift which is why the elitist Al Doggity has abandoned them.

I feel better when regularly deadlifting. It doesn't have to be heavy weight but there's a noticeable difference in my mood, horniness, and ability to tolerate bullshit.
