It's interesting because when I first heard the idea of "flat earther's" I thought they were insane.
 
A quick Google search of their ideas makes them seem somewhat logical. Basically, and Wiggs or Falcon or anyone can correct me where I'm wrong, the idea is that we have been taught idea of a globe/spherical earth from the moment we could learn. So a round earth is indoctrinated in us, much like a flat earth would had been common knowledge to people prior to the last 500 years.

The FE's contend that our idea of gravity (how its holding the oceans in place and allows people in America and China to not fall of the face of the earth, because they're on opposite ends of the globe spectrum) is also wrong, that gravity is redefined to explain a round earth.

The idea is also predicated on NASA and space exploration being 100% false. And if that's the case then their ideas would begin to make sense.

However I didn't come across anything that would explain simple things like GPS and satellites being used.

If the earth is spinning at 1,000 miles an hour, how do airplanes land?  It would be physically impossible to land an airplane with the earth spinning like that. The earth is immovable.

The atmosphere is spinning with earth too. Sort of like when you're driving a car at 60 mph and a fly inside the car it's just floating there without crashing against the windshield.

But what happens when the fly it's OUTSIDE the car, in front of you?

Inability to square sunrise and sunset with flat earth was the only thing that I could see wrong with flat earth theory.  I'm not convinced of it, but don't have a basis to dismiss it either.  Obviously most who do dismiss it do so because some authority told them so.  Would research it if time wasn't a scarce resource or if there was some way to benefit by knowing the truth.  Absent that it's fun to think about and test the brain a little here and there.

You don't need to be an expert to dismiss it.

I've read that forum and some if their ideas are:

- gravity doesn't exist, instead the planet is accelerating"upwards" at 9.8 m/sec squared.
           that's ridiculous. Such acceleration would need huge amounts of energy after just a couple of days.

- the  moon is inhabited by shrimp-like creatures that emit light.
.        again, they can't be serious. Also, they can't explain moon phases with a flat earth hypothesis.

- they think there's a huge conspiracy and there are ice walls preventing things from falling down the edges.
.        there's zero evidence for this. They are just speculating.

Science doesn't work like that, you can't just trust your senses and claim the earth is flat. Our current theories, although incomplete provide us the bases to,make accurate predictions. GPS systems use relativistic effects to make calculations (thanks Einstein), without it they would be off.

Someone please post a MIT old video about frames of references. Let's see if you trust your senses afer seeing it. It's on YouTube.
