My understanding is that he was called "the chemist" but probably could not get any bigger despite the amount of drugs. Those that can't get huge claim they want to go for a more aesthetic look. BTW, I like the aesthetic look but I like honesty more.

Zane's incredible shape, balance and 3 time Olympia winning look is MORE genetic then massive size.
Zane dialed back on size goals by the mid 1970's when he realized he couldn't win with that strategy.
He became a legend by dialing in epic lines for his Olympia contests 1977-79

Poor Zane, he only won 3 Olympias. He could have upped the juice and bulked and oiled up to 300 lbs with BIG guns.
Ricky Piano is massive compared to Zane and has won how many major contests?

Some guys albeit having great lines, don't have the genes and health to hold big size.
I believe that was Zanes case. He would be admired today, but would never won shows in todays mass game.

I'm no big Zane proponent and I think his later look was too light on the legs and he overdeveloped his obliques, it looked weird since he wasn't huge anywhere else.

I've always held my position that Elvis-hair Zane was indeed amazing though, and this pic is crazy nuts.

It was for his ability to get dry and lean consistently for a show, and he was formally a chemistry teacher.

Zane came in heavier his last couple of years, but I wasn't a big fan of this look. His obliques seem overdeveloped and very distracting. Certain parts look smallish as well

Zane in his own words never hit 210 in his life. He was a smooth 200 at his biggest according to himself.
Looked much bigger than 180 when at his best . A bit like Dale Rupinger he must have hollow bones.
