Of course he does...There is your Hope and Change, people.

Obama Opposes Turkey’s anti-Islamist Coup

President Barack Obama is speaking out against the military coup that is now seeking to overthrow Turkey’s elected Islamist government.
According to a 7.00 pm statement from the White House,

The President spoke tonight by phone with Secretary of State John Kerry to discuss the events in Turkey. The President and Secretary agreed that all parties in Turkey should support the democratically-elected Government of Turkey, show restraint, and avoid any violence or bloodshed. The Secretary underscored that the State Department will continue to focus on the safety and security of U.S. citizens in Turkey. The President asked the  entered power in 2009 hoping to use Turkey’s Islamist president to help remake politics in the Middle East — but the wished-for alliance crashed as Erdogan’s Islamist government became more radical year by year.

Obama met with Erdogan multiple times during his first four-year term.

In January, 2012, Obama said Erdogan is one of his top allies. “I think that if you ask them, [Germany’s] Angela Merkel or [Indian] Prime Minister Singh or [Korea’s] President Lee or [Turkey’s] Prime Minister Erdogan or [U.K.] David Cameron would say ‘We have a lot of trust and confidence in the President … We think he’s paying attention to our concerns and our interests,’” he told Newsweek interviewer Fareed Zakaria.

In March 2012, at a meeting in South Korea, Obama declared about Erdogan “that we find ourselves in frequent agreement upon a wide range of issues… [and] because he has two daughters that are a little older than mine — they’ve turned out very well, so I’m always interested in his perspective on raising girls.”

Erdogan has pushed step-by-step create an Islamic state. That Islamic push is being resisted by secular, educated Turks, mostly in the major cities.

Erdogan has also tried to revive the defunct Ottoman Empire by building a new presidential palace and surrounding himself with guards dressed as the soldiers of the Ottoman empire, which collapsed in 1920. That push has been strongly resisted by neighboring Arab countries, and largely ignored by European governments.

Parker: I'm just going my the info my friends in Turkey are saying. I am not there, but so far the second half of my statement where I said the arms are being taken away from the military has turned out to be correct And i said that hours before that was reported by the news. let's see what happens over there today, as it is already Saturday there. I'll call my friends again as I think they know what's going on. Our media spins things ten different ways to Sunday depending which side they like. I don't know much about their country's politics, but they do. I'll listen to them before I will listen to media from here guessing what is going on.

Yeah some broke asshole looking out from the front doorstep of his house and giving a report of what is going on with a country as big as Turkey. Definitely the information worth relying upon.

OBOMBa is a filthy Moozie, no question. His terms in office will likely go down as some of the most destructive in US history.

A Group of Soldiers turned their weapons and gave themselves up to the police

Amatures

Did they not just turn themselves in for execution   ???

No shit. At the very least you will be tortured to death relatively quick for turning yourself in. Best case scenario you just go out fighting. Did the tanks not even shoot at anything? Shades of Hitler in Turkey.

Latest from my friends in Turkey: They say 60 to 70 civilians are dead so far. At least 400 soldiers have been arrested. They are saying their Justice Minister says any and all ground troops will be defeated, and any airborne will be shot down! Just passing on what I heard from my friends in Turkey.

Haven't really looked into Turkish politics but if the military is more pro-secular like you stated perhaps this could be a good thing.

Yes, the Turkish president Erdogan is an Muslim fanatic who wants to turn Turkey into an Islamist republic under Sharia. A dangerous leader who has made numerous remarks supporting Islamic expansion and rule.
The Turkish military supports a secular state much like the one envisaged by Ataturk.

Turkey is in a crossroads. The uneducated rural population are supporters of Erdogan while the urban youth want a modern and progressive nation.

Genuinely interested to hear what are some things that this democratically-elected president did to bring in Sharia law?

They said something like voter turnout was 80%, so obviously a good amount of people there wanted this guy in charge.

He's a populist who has support with the uneducated masses in Turkey and the country folk.
He doesn't say outright that he wants an Islamic state and Sharia, but many feel it's creeping into Turkish society with more Islamic banking, elements of alcohol restriction and an encouragement of women to wear Islamic clothing.

When Erdogan went to Cuba, he spoke of having a mosque built there and claimed that Muslims discovered the America's before Europeons did. :D

And guess who supports Erdogan? Apparently this coup has been put down, like bailey had said.

Wow, it gives Erdogan everything he wants.  International sympathy, a reason to purge the military, diversions from his fascist policies....

It couldn't have worked out better for him.   What luck he has.   ::)

Two things.  First, it seems like these "update" posts come after I've already seen the same thing reported on the news.  And B, less than 1400?  I thought Turkey was a fairly big and somewhat strong country.  Seems like a miniscule number of military involved.
