explain me one thing: I got a friend years ago who came to US as a tourist.
When he came back he told me that if Police stops you for a normal control you must not get out of the car (like for example you do normally here in Italy).
He said to me it's a rule: Police wants you to stay in your car?
Bullshit? True?

Yes they want you to stay in your car. They will walk up to your window to talk with you.

When they walk up to your car, they always touch the taillight or back corner to put their fingerprints on the car, just in case someone shoots them, there is evidence. True story.

Maybe this would sound stupid but isn't more dangerous for cops to walk until your door?
In the meantime if there's an armed guy he had all the time to load and wait to open fire.
Wouldn't be safer for them to make a suspect out of his car?

Yep it's like preparing evidence that will be used in trial if they are murdered.  :-X

I'm not a cop but I think their rationale is that they want your back to them. It's hard to shoot someone when you are seated facing the opposite direction. If someone twists their body to shoot then the officer is in a better position to shoot. Plus at night they shine a spotlight toward you so you can see shit.

you do have a point, but when the cop finally gets to the window I think can be a scary moment since you don't know what's going to happen next

Italian Lifter the job of police officer is safer than most think. The cop is at much greater risk of being hit by a car while walking up to the window than being shot.

see I got a wrong idea. Always thought that being a cop in US-especially in cities like Chicago or NY or LA-was very risky.
Here in Italy is almost like work in a normal office (have many friends at the shooting range who are cops)

It is somewhat risky but commonly overstated. You were talking about traffic stops but I believe domestic violence calls are most dangerous.

Just to piggyback off what calfzilla stated, domestic dispute incidents including alcohol are probably some of the more dangerous situations for the police.
