Actually kali has done well for himself for a guy who spend more of his life in prison, he has over 1.2 million youtube subscribers, his own supplement company and clothing line he does tv commercials and appears on  tv shows.

I don't fault the man for rebuilding his life after serving time in prison.
I do wonder how/why these social media fitness icons attract such a following without winning anything?

Because of charisma and personality you can win as much contest as you want but if you are a boring person nobody is going to follow you on social media, ronnie coleman last contest was like 10 years ago but he has 1.6 million followers on instagram because he lift heavy weights and says funny shit.

In this day and age of youtube and attentionwhoring (it¨s so easy these days), it seems to be like this.

Create attention, do outrageous things to garner attention, get talked about on forums, bodybuildingboards, get your video spread over facebook.

All that is positive and a way to market yourself and your product, and people will go to your booth, buy your product etc.

Things like this (being famous and talked about for doing nothing/crazy stuff, without doing anything of effort or winning a competition) was unheard of in the 60s, but things have changed.
