This question is for a training partner of mine.
He was doing full squats one day when he said that it felt like a blade stabbed him on the inside of his knee. He was fully stretched and warmed up and on his fourth set, not including warm-up. THis was about four weeks ago and still to today he can't even do sissy squats without the blade like feeling coming back.
Does anyone have any ideas or experiences with a similiar injury? He doesn't have any health insurance so I told him I would see what replies I get here.
Thanks in advance.
TM

Probably ruptured a Baker's cyst or ganglion.

If that's what happened (sounds like it) it will go away by itself. Rest / ice / NSAIDS will help. But presence of a cyst usually means a problem with the inside of the knee that may cause future problems. These cysts usually recur unless the underlying problem (e.g., meniscal tear) is attended to.

Do his knees go inward when he squats? And how far does he go down?

At the time of the injury he was going below parallel. He hasn't squated since the injury. I do think that he ws going in on the heavy lifts though, which probably caused his injury. Thanks for the reply.

Sounds like he either injured a tendon or ligament. Only way to tell is with an MRI

Thanks. I just talked to a PT friend of mine and she said the he injured the medial (?) tendon of the knee and that the correct therapy for it is balancing exercises (one leg balancing). This may help anyone else with this type of injury.

From the little amount of info it sounds like the medial meniscus may have been cruched and torn, depending on the severity it shouldnt cause any future problems as long as it is rested enough put if the problem is worse then it may require the meniscus being trimmed to prevent inflamation.

I've had a knee reco.
Tell him to get an MRI and fork the money out on a specialist.

What a coincidence!
I stuffed my knee last Monday night playing basketball. It was the last game before the semis too!
I think I've just torn the cartilege as there wasn't that much movement in the joint. I can feel there's a bit of fluid in there.
Does anyone think diuretics will help get it out?

Swelling's gone down a lot.
Can walk normally now.
Didn't play last night. Tested it out with an attempt at grabbing the ring, but felt bad when I landed.
Another week off and I'll see how I go cause the grand final is next week.
