Quest Nutrition is a manufacturer of protein bars. The company makes products for bodybuilders and professional athletes. In 2014, Quest was named the 2nd fastest growing company on the INC 500. Today, Quest products are available in more than 60,000 locations all around the world. The company makes everything from protein bars to pasta and chips. This month, Quest Nutrition LLC filed two WARN notifications with the state of California.
In the state of California, companies are required to submit a WARN notification whenever they close a plant or lay off 50 or more employees within a 30-day period. California received two WARN notifications from Quest Nutrition LLC on August 11, 2017. According to those notifications, Quest will be permanently closing two Los Angeles facilities.
The impending closure of the Walnut facility will lead to the permanent layoff of 122 workers. The permanent closure of the Hacienda facility will result in 402 workers being laid off. The layoffs are expected to begin in October of this year. The Hacienda layoffs will be effective on October 12, 2017. The Walnut layoffs will be initiated on October 26, 2017.
In total, Quest Nutrition will be laying off 524 workers in the State of California. Quest is not the only company to close its plants in California. Also this month, the Dole Food Company announced the closure of its Oxnard plant leading to 172 permanent layoffs. Chemring Energetic Devices and Meridian Sports Clubs also announced layoffs of 52 and 65 workers respectively.
Quest Nutrition, the El Segundo-based protein bar-maker, will shutter two of its manufacturing facilities in Los Angeles and lay off 524 employees.
The company filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN) notice last month to permanently close its City of Industry and Walnut facilities. It occupies an estimated 181,000 square feet at its City of Industry plant at 18551 Arenth Avenue, according to CoStar. The location will begin laying off 402 workers starting Oct. 12, the Los Angeles Business Journal reported. The Walnut facility at 381 S Brea Canyon Road will lay off 122 workers effective Oct. 26. The industrial site is 298,050 square feet, according to data firm CompStak. Quest was not immediately available for comment.
