I'm not saying people need to upgrade.  I still have an Iphone 4.  The reality is people care about their phone and will upgrade, which means Apple has tons of money to keep improving their phones and so do their suppliers like TSMC.  The pace at which the whole industry is progressing is quite impressive.

The battery on mine is non replaceable. So it pretty much means the phone is done after the battery goes. I'm not a fan of having the phone tinkered with and ruining the original seal, even legit cell repair places can screw it up. They probably did that on purpose to encourage upgrading.

You can have Apple replace the battery for you for 79 bucks, if you don't have coverage or it is pass the 3 years.

Not all android phones can be rooted and/or have roms for them. Plus sometimes it kills android pay, other features, and was bugs. Also have fun installing your shady rom downloaded for a shady google drive account. Smart people, that want android, will just buy google pixels or maybe onePlus phones and not worry about upgrade, updates, and malware pre installed on their phones. Have fun!

TSMC Ready to Spend $20 Billion on its Most Advanced Chip Plant
By Samson Ellis

Itís getting more expensive for Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. to stay at the top of its game.

The biggest contract maker of chips is preparing to spend more than $20 billion on its next state-of-the-art plant as itís built over the next few years.

Itís now building a three-nanometer technology plant, its most sophisticated yet, in southern Taiwan.

Sooo much money to make something so small.

Globalfoundries: Next-generation chip factories will cost at least $10 billion
Dean Takahashi

The economics of the chip industry are pretty staggering. Sanjay Jha, CEO of contract chip manufacturer Globalfoundries, recently told me that it could cost between $10 billion and $12 billion to build a next-generation chip factory based on the latest technology, dubbed 7-nanometer production. And one for the generation after that, dubbed 5-nanometer production, could cost $14 billion to $18 billion.

Things will get interesting if Globalfoundries is able to leapfrog Intel.

Why don't they have the money, they're owned by the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.  Also, they're getting the same yields on 14nm as Samsung and use the identical process.  I'm not saying they'll be equal to Intel, but it would be nice if they were competitive.

Samsung and TSMC were both able to beat Intel to 10nm.

I work in the industry. Gf is behind, don't read some bs internet article and run w it. Money also needs to come from business, you can't live off VCs forever.  Leave it at that. Tsmc is the leader for foundries

Qualcomm is working on a crazy-fast processor we wonít see for years
by Chris Smith

The leaker, who proved in the past that he has direct access to inside information about unreleased devices, said that the Snapdragon 855 chip will be built on the 7nm process and that itíll be more energy efficient than its predecessors. If Qualcomm ships the Snapdragon 855 in 2019, itís likely the A13 chip that will power 2019 iPhones will also be a 7nm chip. Next yearís Snapdragon 845 chip will probably be built on 10nm process technology, and will be exclusive to the Galaxy S9 family in the first part of 2018, a report said earlier this week.

http://bgr.com/2017/10/11/galaxy-s10-specs-qualcomm-snapdragon-855-chip/

Interesting leak from an industry insider about the future Snapdragon 855 and Apple A13 chips to be built on 7nm in 2019.

What pisses me off is that the whole phone relies on booting up on battery, done on purpose. You can't even plug it in to use any of it. Cheap motherfuckers

Lithium-ion batteries degrade over time. Happens to all of them.  Going to be hard to find a company that is going to let a phone work with a bad lithium-ion battery now a days. They are basically bombs, hell look at the samsung note 7.
