There were no people indigenous to the Americas. Everyone came from somewhere else, starting out in Africa with Australopithecus Afarensis or something. Scientists aren't even sure how the first (not indigenous) people got to America, whether by walking over the Bering Straight post ice age or via other methods from Europe (the Solutrean Hypothesis). There were also multiple waves of migration so no one here at the time of Columbus had any greater claim than he did. They took it from others same as the Europeans eventually did.
