did the shitels have anything to do.with influncing prog rock?

prog rock is ACE/TOPS

No, but ELO did an evolved Beatles style that you could say was prog-influencing. Pretty sure one of the Beatles even said that is what they would've sounded like if they stayed together(ELO).

Jeff Lynne could have made ELO sound like Gentle Giant but he wanted to sell records.

.. The Beatles were so significant and influential, the simple mind cannot conceive of it .. They were heads and shoulders the most talented and prolific musical group in history .. EVERYBODY copied the Beatles.. First there were the Beatles; then there was everyone else .. Their legend will never be duplicated

I like Zeppelin, Doors, Hendrix, some pink Floyd and Stones but I don't think they sound anything like the Beatles.

"Hate" is a pretty strong word.

The best part of The Who IMO was Keith Moon and John Entwistle, both of whom are no longer with us.  There was no one ever like The Loon and The Ox, and there never will be again.  Keith and John played drums and bass, respectively, like they were lead instruments but everything blended together harmoniously.  There will never be another band like The Who.  Their onstage energy and their sheer volume were also unequalled.  I love The Who.

If this Who cover of Mose Allison's "Young Man Blues" doesn't rock you to your core, then you have no soul and I pity you.

LOL - Dude - I reread my comment - I actually meant that 'the Beatles wish they could have been ELO' - so we agree (I just worded it very sh1tly  ;D)  Nice to meet another fan....

ELO on permanent rotation in my mid-life-crisis-mobile - no Horace Wimp am I...  8)

Although I’m primarily a hard rock guy, some of the more easy listening rock bands are a guilty pleasure for me.

ELO is one of them:

This is just top-of-the-line pop song writing:
