I BRIEFLY met Jimmy Carter back in 1976.
He was campaigning in my hometown ( Portsmouth NH) right before the election.
He shook my hand coming out of the bathroom* at Yoken's restaurant .
" I'm Gov Jimmy Carter young man. I'm going to be your next President"
Then he flashed this mega smile and quickly moved on .
* I hope he washed his hands 

I didn't think too highly of Carter as President.
But it was cool shaking his hand and I always thought he was a decent man.

Whether he's your political cup of tea or not there is no denying he's as fine a human being as this country has ever seen.
