It’s about right. Republicans there outnumber Dems about 2 to 1. Affinity is correct that the blacks won the election for Jones. He got about 95% of the black vote. It’s a perfect example of why the Democrats have to kiss so much black ass. If that number ever drops well below 90%, Dems will never win an election.
During his congressional career, he was mostly a reliable part of the Southern bloc of politicians who thwarted civil rights bills at every turn. As president, when he appointed Thurgood Marshall to the Supreme Court over a lesser-known black judge, LBJ explained in private, “When I appoint a ni gger to the bench, I want everybody to know he’s a ni gger.” He even referred to his own Civil Rights bill as the "ni gger bill.”
