But I would agree that most fighters that height are 170 - in fact, a lot of them fight in even lighter classes. But to compete in the 170 class at 5'9 puts you in a position where you are still thin, yet have a decent amount of muscle mass and [hopefully] strength to go with it.

they lose 20-30 in 24 hours or so, so their real walk around weight is 190-200 if in the 170 class

Palumbo was as purple as big Curtis in the 90s at golds and hes still alive today whilst Curtis has been 6 foot under for the last 20 or so years, Dave's 190 strategy is working well in comparison.

Palumbo wised up. Realized being comfortable is way more important than being huge. Especially given his poor genetic structure. 190 isn't big but it's not small either. No reason to be any heavier and I'm sure he is strong enough to do whatever he enjoys.
