Due to my past involvement and my family's present involvement within the production of major Hollywood motion picture productions ... I always turn on the TV for the Academy Awards ....

But it's always in the background because I'm always involved in doing other things which I feel are more important until some family member or someone I personally know has a chance of being called up on that stage.

But the main awards .... Best Picture, Actor, Actress, etc, always get my attention.

BTW .... I was once involved within an incident in which I was asked to hold an Oscar so that the reciprent would not use it as an instrument of 'mass destruction" .... Tha's a bit of an exaggeration, but I sat there holding it for about 20 minutes whie giving immaginary acceptance speeches to an immaginary audiance until one of the antagonists grabbed it from my hands and replaced it in the mantel.

Those heavy, "gold" plated, awards would make one hell of a murder weapon and I often wonder why a screenplay was never written about that subject!

I might give it a try tonite.

The Oscars is kind of like a work meeting where the men have to go and toe the company line if they want to keep getting their paychecks.  I'll bet you money they don't really feel that way.  It's all about the illusion.

Which begs the question--is it worth any amount of money to throw your integrity and self-respect out the window?  Tom Selleck seems to be doing okay with speaking his mind and sticking to his guns, but for every Tom Selleck how many other actors are blackballed and out of work for attempting to buck the liberal trend in Hollywood?
