I guess that's how they do it in the UK. In America, police don't just arrest people because it is the easy thing to do  

it's not the "easy" thing to do. it's the correct thing to do to protect all parties, legally and given the gravity of the situation and potential legal consequences for the "stabber" in this case, it's even more important that the correct procedures were followed.

from what i see of the US a lot of the policing is pretty primitive. for instance, roadside sobriety tests where they get the driver to walk around or touch their nose and do all manner of stupid sht. for 50 years or so in the UK the sole roadside sobriety test has been the breathalyser.

also when you consider that US police kill nearly 1000 people a year compared to 4 or 5 a year in the UK, i think i prefer how the legal system works here tbh.

as a law abiding citizen who follows instructions from a cop your chances of being shot are almost zero.

In the state i live in there are laws in place saying you can shoot anyone dead who forcibly enters your property and poses a physical threat, this includes your car.

It doesn't work because they do not carry out the sentence, they drag it out in the system for what seems generations.  FTN.  One appeal within a year of the verdict is enough.  Then if the sentence stands, execution within that week.  Did the perp give their victim(s) years of life or did they end them without a thought?
