You want quiet, go to the library.

Sudden loud noises evoke startle responses which are not under conscious control if the noise is loud enough- thus, you can't NOT react to them. Startle responses distract you as they involuntarily leads to a switch in attention and this can be dangerous in a gym. I find it highly disturbing if I am doing an exercise and some jerk drops a weight right behind me. I even become angry without wanting to.

Gyms should enforce that weights should never be dropped or otherwise handled in a way that makes excessive noise. If people want to do this, they should have reserved areas. In my gym, the crossfitters have their own big room.

I've read online that the tough guy is an employee of the gym named Jonathan Ciacca

I've also read online that the tough guy is not an employee of the gym, but a member named jean philippe bernard

Ho Lee Fuk.  I didn't realize that the guy didn't just kick the bar out of his hands, he kicked him in the nuts.  The more I think about this, the more I'm siding with the kid who just wants to deadlift--maybe the kid needs to work on not dropping the bar so hard, but that doesn't justify getting kicked in the nuts.  That is just not okay and the guy who did it has some serious issues.

He says he also still has some slight back pain.

His benching and squat technique sucks. Squatting with more weight than he can handle, and just all awkward. Benching technique is terrible.
Sad what happened to him, but he’s looking at injuries in the future.

The extreme arch in his back when he benches can't be too good for his spine.

He’s one of thos guys, who at first talks about their bench and squat poundages. Then people see his technique, and then he gets  ::) from his “haters”. Then he he will start wondering why he is either getting injured or not making any gainz, physique or strength wise.

When I watched the first vid, I knew something had to be  up with this dude. Couldn’t put my finger on it at the time.

Too bad. What that guy who confronted him did used to happen daily to people acting like dipshits in hardcore gyms across the country (and probably worldwide) and you'd get the picture the first time; I guarantee you everyone in the gym who actually enjoys lifting was behind him 100%, which is why those two just watched from a distance rather than try to get involved. The reason for the pussification of the world is right here in these videos: The moment you confront someone, they pull out their phone and call 911. It's affected everything, not just how people carry themselves in gyms but also how they socialize or act at work. Being a man in the conventional sense is dead because they've criminalized it.

If you read the comments under the videos it's clear like 95% of people typing brave words from the keyboards are sucking up to this turd and piling on the other guy, stalking his Facebook, trying to kill him, etc. Pathetic. All because of a warning to drop the exercise followed by a shove, big deal. The guy's nuts were never kicked, the video clearly shows he's recoiling the minute there's contact and he's play acting like soccer players do when they grab their knees and cry to get the other guy a warning card. There's that other video of this same idiot deadlifting a full 4 reps after being told by a female staff member to stop doing it, ignoring her completely. He's a fuckstain and I hope all the charges get dismissed, though they probably won't since Canada's a joke.

I've never seen an asshole kick a loaded bar from the grasp of a lifter in my life. twas basically a sucker punch that could have caused serious spinal injury. dude deserves to have his ass beat.

He's not dropping the barbell hard, he's nice and controlled. Modern age douche's know nothing about old-school heavy training.
He's fine, the other guys a c-u-n-t... Should have caved his skull in w/ a dumbbell (jerky)...

He told him a few times to drop it and the guy didn't. He may have also heard about what happened in this video, where clear verbal commands are obviously ineffective, much as they are when state troopers do traffic stops on black motorists who end up tazed and in custody because providing proof of insurance is racist.

They should've called the police on this asshole during this video if he refused to leave and revoked his membership.

I like to think I know something about old-school heavy training...I've gotten 500+ for lots of reps and had a 1RM of 585, lifetime drug-free.  I just never felt the need to slam the bar down after a rep and draw attention to myself.  Does that make me weird, or not hardcore enough?

That was not controlled. I have talked shit about deadlifts on here, but I have done them, when I do them I use pretty serious weight. I honestly can't say whether or not I make noise like that because I usually have my headphones in working out and it honestly would never even occur to me to notice that. But I do know that when I do deadlifts they don't look like that. He's just dropping the weight during the eccentric portion, he's not working at all. He drops the weight hard enough that it bounces and causes his arm to vibrate because it's bouncing so much. If the eccentric portion was actually controlled, that wouldn't happen. That a teen has technique like this isn't surprising, but I was surprised to hear that he is being coached or trained by someone who was willing to admit it in public.

That being said, the other guy was in the wrong. Even if you believe everything bad about the deadlifter- he was a habitually inconsiderate lifter, he made that amount of noise on purpose to provoke a response, he was intentionally defying the rules of a planet fitness-like gym- the other guy flat-out assaulted him in a way that could have caused serious injury because he was too loud. He not only stomped the weight out of his hands, he pushed him with the intention of starting a fight. I don't see how there's a dispute over who is wronger.

Here's a guy doing controlled deadlifts. He's still making quite a bit of noise, but  notice the weight doesn't bounce and his arms don't vibrate. I reposted the original video so you don't have to go back to compare.

It's deadlifting for Christ's sake. It's not supposed to be quiet in any shape or form.

God, these types of gyms are so lame.

Actually, Planet Fitness-type gyms do have rules on loud lifting, hence the "lunk" alarm.

If you think Planet Fitness sucks because it's not hardcore enough, they don't want you there. Their business model is appealing to people who will never actually want to come, but being cheap enough that they never bother to cancel their membership.

Also, they're a great convenient place for people who live in their vans to shower.
