Didn't mention anything about young guys, you came up with that all by your gimmicky self.

Rap has evolved many times since the late 70s but its current state is one in which guys who mumble and wear skinny jeans can get 50,000,000 views and someone like Chuck D is virtually unknown to anyone who's never heard rap before 1995. Pretty sad. All autotune and sinister sound effects.

What does that have to do with young guys? A new generation of rap doesn't mean they're young rappers, hell Future and Ty dolla are in their mid-30s. You clearly need a dictionary on top of a spine and a real account, you chronic cock smoker.

"Concerts don't mean shit, bands from the 80s still do them yet havent sold an album in 30 years. Record sales are pretty much the only thing that matters." - Kwon3

The Richest Artists In the World Make 75%+ of Their Money from Touring

"despite the rise of streaming in the music industry, the richest artists still make the majority of their cash from touring."

"Beyonce took the top crown as the highest-grossing artist of 2016.  She earned a whopping $62.1 million.  From sales alone, she earned $4.3 million. $1.9 million came in from streaming. Another $1.3 million from publishing.  From touring, however, Beyonce earned $54.7 million. This accounts for slightly over 88% of the total amount that she made in 2016."

Putting things in quotes doesn't make them true. But I wouldn't expect a guy who believes and sees what he wants to see and believe to understand that.

"Eminem pretty much all retired from rap"

 :D

I cant remember when i saw someone so clueless on getbig

this is cluelessness of epic proportions.

and then he goes on and follow up that gem claiming that "touring is a bonus" while beyonce makes 88% of her money from touring.

it just gets better and better!  :D

And you can't disprove anything I wrote, so by default, you're the loser in this little argument you started. Yeah, facts are hard to overcome when you don't have any.

"I don't know any rappers or rap groups from 1991 (Cypress's debut) who are still doing it today. Ice Cube pretty much all retired from rap."

meanwhile, ice cube performs every year for 13 years straight since 2006  :D

Hasn't released an album in 8 years. How is he still at if he has no record deal? Anybody can tour, even an autist like you.

so a rapper isnt really rapping unless he's rapping on a recording?

its not hard to look up the fact that beyonce (alone or together with jay z) and eminem (alone or together with rihanna) sells a shitload of tickets and make them a shitload of money. to claim touring is just a bonus and that theres no money in touring is up there with the flat earth theory.

A rapper with no deals is not a rapper anymore, correct. Having a deal and being unsigned are what make the difference between apes in the hood who sing on the corner or record their own beats and the ones who drive luxury cars and get invited to late night shows to perform.

So what? Nobody said touring doesn't pay well. But with no record sales, there's no major tours, either. Most of Cube's shows are in small nightclubs nowadays and he hasn't been on a big tour or TV show just to perform in years. He's an actor, why not talk about his movie career instead? It's doing a lot better than his rap sales.

and yet these rappers keep on touring, worldwide, show after show, city after city, year after year.

So does Weird Al, and the 50 people who show up to see him probably think he's awesome too! Doesn't mean he is.

Now, the members of Cypress Hill have to be around age 50. It’s hard to stay relevant to teens and to people in their early 20’s when you are OLDER THAN THEIR PARENTS

The only misbehavior they can muster at their age is incontinence.  Detained for a pee stain.  Varicose veins.  Where's my cane?

There are a lot of good songs all over hip hop these days. At no point in the history of hip hop have "conscious rappers" ever dominated. But as you age, nostalgia goggles tend to filter out the tripe and idealize the good. As it is, you have the greatest varianceof what it means to be a mainstream rapper going on these days. And if the mainstream isn't offering you what you want, it's easier than ever to find it and connect with other people who are into it.

Public Enemy, X-Clan, Brand Nubians, Kwame (first album), Common, Poor Righteous Teachers, Arrested Development, CL Smooth, Guru, Bahamadia were all more or less “Conscious Rappers”. Many of those did somewhat dominate, some like Arrested Development, was due to cross over appeal (Remember EPMD’s “Crossover”?) But the Gangsta Rap and Materialistic Rap was pushed more. I think Chuck D did a vid on how these genres were marketed to the white middle class, as it sold this fantasy of black angst and struggle. This sold more than Conscious Rap, because the white kids aren’t going to buy music about black folks talking positive about each other.
