had to leave the best gym I ever joined.
« on: August 25, 2018, 11:36:58 PM »
im not doing to good on gyms this year. joined a brand new golds gym a year ago. brand spanking new, beautiful place, clean, cheap, close to my house. but the weight lifting area was very small, and at almost any time of the day, it was packed. I mean wall to wall people, 90 percent of them were just kids, just learning how to lift weights. about 1 mile away, they opened up a brand new crunch gym. 44,000 square feet. so I quit golds and joined this new gym. in the beginning, it was great. there was 10 bench presses, 5 full pulley stations, 10 power racks, dumbbells up to 150 pounds.

but this gym was close to a heavy populated Vietnamese area. and of course in the beginning, it was not crowded, but maybe word of mouth happened, and in two months time, no matter what time  I go, its fulled with young Vietnamese kids, all taking selfies, fucking around, not doing anything on the equipment there are on. normally I just put my head down and do my thing, even thou im surrounded by these kids. the manager who kept things in line quit, so it looks like the place is running amok.

so last night, I look over at the turf area, near the 10 power racks, and three kids, (or young adults) are playing fucking dodgeball on the turf area. and im like WTF??????? and the one kid is missing the ball, so the ball is ricocheting into the power rack area!!!!!!!!
if I would have been in that powerrack area, I would have killed those little bastards. but I wasn't, I was on the treadmill just watching them and fuming.

got off the treadmill and went to the desk and quit on the spot. I asked for the manager, and the girl said there is no manager??????????????????

so im 0 for 2 this year on gyms. back too my old nasty 24 hour fitness, for 9 dollars a month :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X

Awesome home gym!  I don't know why anyone still pays to go to a gym when you can get the same workout at home with none of the hassles.

Too bad about the bad luck with gyms. Have you thought about not keeping your head down and becoming politely more aggressive. One of the L.A. Fitness gyms I go to has a lot of youngsters and even some seniors who hog the machines while playing games with their phones. If I want to use the machine they're monopolizing I politely ask them to move so I can use it for something more than a chair. BTW, the gym I speak of has a primarily Asian membership with Russians coming in at a close second. I've not noticed the Russians playing with their phones while working out. They get right to it. -Only issue is they work out in groups, so forget about jumping in to do a set here and there.

the only problem with that prime is that sure, I can go up to a 120 pound kid sitting on a bench doing nothing, and get all aggressive on him, sure that will work. but I also have to do it to the 290 pound steroid dripping yoked out tuff guy doing the same thing???? and I'm not going to do that at my age, because what if he gets pissed and all crazy, and gets in my face???? then I have problems. I have always thought like that, its easy to be tuff on a little guy, but what if its a big stud?? not a good percentage move in my thinking. so I don't get into anyones business. of course I will
nicely but strongly ask the little weasel if he's almost finished, but when they see old judo choke, dripping sweat from his bald head, they normally just leave.

actually the last big guy I got into his face was CSWOLE. we barked at each other for a minute or so, and we both backed down at the same time. we were instant friends after that moment . miss that poyope eating chicken fellow ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

I trained at home for decades and occasionally at work gyms. About three years ago my wife gave me a three month membership to the local fancy gym.  Maybe 30 treadmills and all new equipment with an indoor pool. The only thing they didn't  pay attention to was the olympic bars. They all stunk. Old bars with no knurling to speak of. Had fun there for three months but started to get annoyed at the nuts and egos that trained there. The only great part were the hot girls there who worked out in those panty hose yoga pants.

After my experience there I figured I try out another gym in town. This one was a hard core dump. People dress to work out and it's not a fashion show like the fancy place.  Something I picture Yates and Coleman would love to train in. The machines are over 30 years old. Powerlifters train there and chalk flies. The owner did time for manslaughter. He one punched someone and he died. He's now very successful. He owns a gym, barber shop, and a home renovation type business. I've been training on and off there for about two years. I always end up back in my home gym. The music is always what I desire. The hard core place constantly has on 70's rock. The place is really stuck in time. It has a good friendly atmosphere unlike the stuck up one at the fancy new place.

My home gym is where I have had some brutal workouts.  My membership runs out at the end of this week. Training at home for awhile after that. I bet after a month I will want to be back in the commercial gym again. A couple of pictures. Don't have all the pictures that would show you the complete basement but these few will give you the drift.

Last two. Maybe I will take pictures of the rest of the gym someday to post. I have dumbbells to 115lbs. Lat machine with a bunch of attachments, leg press/hack, machine squat, calf raise, squat rack, bench, seated calf, leg extension/leg curl, hyper bench, sit up board, treadmill, power bar, Olympic bar, ez curls, bumper plates and regular plates.

been a member at 24 hour fitness for over twenty years. so thats my monthly rate. never changes. but the gym close to me is old and nasty. they opened up a super sport about 8 minutes away in Hawaiian gardens. looks like I have to pay 10 more dollars a month to go there.
probably do it as I will only be paying 19 bucks a month, and they give you a work out sweat towel.
