To answer your question about a insider writing an op ed about a police leader... IF I thought it was fabricated and did not really come from someone high up, I certainly wouldn't spend any time trying to figure out what imaginary official wrote it. My point was, the Administration seems to be treating it as authentic by trying to find out which one of them wrote it. They wouldn't be doing that if they really thought  it was fabricated.

If you ask me as a Trump supporter, I think he's handling this completely the wrong way. The ideal way to eliminate a story is to ignore it, especially if it's from a bastion of liberal disinformation like the NYT. By talking about it during his speeches on the campaign trail for Republicans running for re-election as well as that impromptu exchange with the press in the White House the other day, he's bolstering the article author's credibility and allowing the issue to simmer in the minds of not only his enemies but some of his supporters as well. If it's false, why respond to it? I think the President got it wrong here.

The ability to make critical judgments of someone you deeply support is a hallmark of a thinking conservative. Liberals, by contrast, repeat information spoon fed to them by rote and lack the capacity to objectively confront their leaders and celebrity idols on what they do wrong while extending them full credit for what they do right. If he was accused of murder, I’d enthusiastically claim I did it and do everything humanly possible to prove it in court. The reason has nothing to do with his competency to be commander in chief or his MAGA slogans which are, after all, intended to appeal to a lowbrow audience that’s easily swayed by bread and circuses and emotional appeals to the military and the flag. The real reason is because the people who hate him are the same people who hate me in real life. Then he waltzes out of office and forgets we exist until the midterms and has now resumed giving beautiful speeches on behalf of democrats running across the country.

For a lot of us, Donald Trump was and is a breath of fresh air. We’d been longing for someone who had the balls to say the things he said and call out Muslims and leftist PC terrorists by name. To mock ugly, obnoxious feminists on social media and question the establishment Republicans whenever they tried to sell out to the other side just to get votes. The economy’s moving again. “Simple” people have jobs. We’re proud to be American once more while the governor of New York holds speeches saying America was never that great. It's hilarious that you think Trump "fixed" our economy given that we in the 8th or 9th year of a economic recovery and our borders are exactly the same as when he took office.
