Gosh, what went wrong?  ::)

The government of Finland collapsed Friday due to the rising cost of universal health care
and the prime minister's failure to enact reforms to the system.

Prime Minister Juha Sipila and the rest of the cabinet resigned after the governing coalition
failed to pass reforms in parliament to the country's regional government and health services,
the Wall Street Journal reports. Finland faces an aging population, with around 26 percent of
its citizens expected to be over 65 by the year 2030, an increase of 5 percent from today.

The Washington Free Beacon is either intentionally misrepresenting the facts or they're too ignorant to understand what's really going on.

HELSINKI, March 15 (Reuters) - Finland’s social and healthcare systems still need reforming to ensure the sustainability of its public finances, Bank of Finland governor Olli Rehn said on Friday, a week after the failure of its health reform plan led the government to quit.

Finland’s Government Collapses Weeks Before General Election
DOMINIC CHOPPING MARCH 08, 2019
Finland’s government collapsed Friday, just weeks before the country heads to the polls
for a general election, after the prime minister failed to win approval for key reforms.

Prime Minister Juha Sipilä has struggled to get social and health-care reforms that he
made the cornerstone of his government’s four-year term through parliament. The project
aimed to overhaul Finland’s regional government, health and social services to bring down
costs and safeguard the system amid an aging population.

Finland Government Resigns After Overhauls Fall Through

COPENHAGEN — Finland’s center-right government, headed by Prime Minister Juha Sipila,
resigned on Friday after failing to push through an overhaul of social and health care programs.

“I take the responsibility for the failure. It has been a huge disappointment to me,” Mr. Sipila
said at a news conference, according to the public broadcaster YLE. The changes, he added,
“had been one of our most important projects.”

President Sauli Niinisto accepted the resignation of Mr. Sipila, who came to power in May 2015
and will continue to serve in a care-taking role. The move came just weeks before parliamentary
elections, scheduled for April 14, to renew the country’s 200-seat Eduskunta assembly.

No. It means, as usual, you have a lot of difficulty reading things as they are written. The proposal for a health system collapsed. Then the folks proposing it resigned. If you don't see the difference, you are even dumber than I thought you were.

According to Bloomberg it collapsed. Legit enough?

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-03-13/finland-s-government-just-made-its-most-popular-move-to-resign

Finnish Cabinet’s Collapse May Hamper EU Presidency Preparation

The surprise resignation of Finland’s government has an unfortunate side-effect: it throws a spanner in the works of preparations for the Nordic nation’s European Union presidency.

Finland’s turn holding the bloc’s rotating six-month presidency is set to begin July 1, and the timetable already looked tough with elections coming up. Now, the government’s collapse on a political gamble by Prime Minister Juha Sipila removes policy makers’ oversight from the work to prepare for the EU presidency, leaving civil servants holding the steering wheel.

Perhaps it's just semantics. One of the Bloomberg headlines says the government resigned and the next says it collapsed. The two words have slightly different meanings. Media will employ the language which most sensationalizes the headlines or story. Everyone here should know this. When the democrats do something stupid, the media blows it out of proportion and when Trump does something dumb the media makes a really big deal about it. This could be why the often used, "fake news" resonates so well with folks.

Whether the Finnish government collapsed or the members of the government resigned makes little difference. The country is in a pickle.

Health care is a big issue worldwide. People are living longer, but not necessarily healthier lives. Young folks see little need for health care insurance coverage because, guess what? most of them are healthier with the exception of those whose lifestyle choices ruin their health. Somebody's gotta pay for all the washed up deadbeat bodybuilders who have a plethora of health issues thanks to abusing their bodies for so long.

Finland faces an aging population.  They should just open their borders to African and Middle Eastern refugees, that should fix their problems.  It's worked for the rest of Europe.

LOL, I get your sarcastic crack and humor here.
BUT, we need to take a hard look at reality when it comes to national health care plans.

You can't fully cover everyone, without spending a lot of $$$.

Medicare works because people pay in thru payroll taxes while working.
Them after age 65 , it pays for aprox 80% of their healthcare.

Obama tried and rates crept up and the low risk , younger pool , didn't want to contribute.
So, Obamacare has started to collapse due a lack of younger paying in and a growing risk pool.

Trump promised he'd deliver something great .
" You'll play less and get better coverage, It will be something great."
Sadly, it never happened, because his plan doesn't exist.

Neither party wants to admit the basic truth:
Covering everyone for everything costs too much.
Plus, no elected official wants to admit leaving some out = letting people remain sick and even die from disease.

The USA and most of western Europe are "ageing populations".
This happens to most wealthy , industrialized nations.

More $$ = better food, water and medical care = [less infant mortality + greater longevity]

The harsh truth is health care costs are going to increase as the population gets older.

Yes, but then the cost will plummet when they die off.  Having a smaller population is a positive thing.

It depends.  It's all about timing.  You wouldn't want to be the one having to wait a long time to see a doctor, or have surgery because too many old doctors and surgeons have retired or died, and there aren't enough fresh, new young doctors and surgeons to satisfy future demand.

A smaller population might be better than an overcrowded one. World economies depend, in part, on population growth. how would you reconcile this conundrum?

Especially now with the technology there is really no reason to have so many people crammed into a city.  Most shopping is online now and every little town in America has restaurants, schools, jobs, etc, etc.  Why do people still think we are in the industrial revolution?

Are you cordial to liberals when you go to the mountains? ;)

Most people enjoy a break from their regular routine, specially when they reside in a congested, frantic and stressful place. For many people, a permanent move to the sticks is not possible or at least very challenging. I'm probably better positioned to move to a little town or a small resort community than you are because I am retired, so my income continues regardless of where I choose to live. There are valid reasons why people live in cities, no matter how fucked up the place is. Since you go to the mountains, you must come from somewhere else, like a city. If you enjoy a more rural life, what's holding you back?
