Bummer.  Solid truck, brand, and service here in the states.

Is the 4 Runner or FJ? Toyota at all for that matter?  Here's some older FJ's https://www.carfax.com/Used-Toyota-FJ-Cruiser_w648

FJ Cruiser was sold over here, the version with automatic transmission had no permanent 4WD if I recall correctly
Also no diesel, so quite impressive fuel costs with the V6 gas engine

Landcruiser diesels are relatively common in UK / Gibraltar where the topic starter apparently lives

Most are too expensive 2nd hand imo, even with high mileage

Tacoma isn't sold in Europe....

I would go for a first owner 1st generation Volvo XC90 AWD
Plenty on offer, practical, comfortable, very roomy, dealers and parts everywhere, and relatively affordable

Ha - we were looking at the xc60 & 90 today !!
I hadn’t really thought of them - got to say they are on our consideration list now.

I do Live in UK / Gibraltar- Southern Spain.
Gibraltar isn’t the best place for big cars as there’s very little parking space & road are extremely
Narrow in places - wide enough for just 1 vehicle.
Won’t be using it around there very often. 😁

It's crazy to me how different the styles seem to be in Europe.

First en second generation XC90 are built in Sweden

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volvo_XC90

So are the V90 and V90 Cross Country

V60, and XC60 are built in Volvo's factory in Gent, Belgium

From what I read in German car magazine AutoBild, the first gen XC90 was overbuilt by Volvo. They had no experience with an SUV, so they decided to take no risks and use quality components that last.
Inline 5 cilinder single turbo diesel might be the best choice in Europe, you can find lost of info on Volvo forums

Most likely - all roads gebiggers use are simple straights so they can thrust their high status toys with maximum gusto.

We visited Gibraltar in 2011, spend several hours there, very interesting and impressive place!
Then drove on to Tarifa, and finally to Vejer de la Frontera  (And then back to Marbella)

The Rock is cramped, but luckily Andalucia is one of the most fantastic regions of Europe!

I did notice many car rental companies do not allow you to take the car into Gibraltar (We parked close to the border). At the time some stolen cars apparently ended up in ships sailing from The Rock?

Small streets indeed bus the small taxi bus we took had no problems with them:

Most normal people drive on public roads. You never do, naturally   ;D

In many parts of Europa soccer mom SUVs are tricky enough to park or drive through narrow old town streets....or enter / exit parking garages...(not to mention high taxes and high fuel prices)

Just buy a Fiat then. Why obsess over what you drive if you can't afford it and don't have room to drive it? OP is doomed to drive a lame, small. 1.3L shitbox. /thread

Ahhh I see an insult...so who's brighter then - the asker who doesn't know what to drive asking a forum for validation or the answerer who is totally secure in what they drive?

All wheel drive gets me through Michigan winters just fine.  No reason for 4X4 to even be a thing.
