Why are the people more affected by it nowadays as opposed to Korea and back further? Is it the type of war we fight, where it’s usually not us at war with a country and the foe is not a traditional soldier?

People just talk about it more. My uncle fought in Korea, was shot and had a few of his friends near him killed. He never talked about it- I hear the story from his wife, my aunt.

My great uncle was boarding a plane during WWII in the Philippines when a bomb placed on board by a saboteur exploded. He was a mess the rest of his life yet still he managed to live a somewhat normal existence

My landlord at one of the first apartments I rented was a POW in WWII. Tortured by the Nazis, starved almost to death until the Allies rescued him. The horrific stories he told...

So it has always been a terrible ordeal.

Sad to say I believe people are softer.  The World War II generation grew up in the remains of the Great Depression. They fought in World War II having sometimes daily battles living in the field. When the war was over they came home and went to work like dogs and built the greatest country on earth. I'm from military family going back generations. I can't tell you how many of today's soldiers want a check from a claimed disability.

Veterans have always been affected by war.

The ones in the past just suffered silently. It was an internal struggle that they didn’t show anyone.

But make no mistake, they suffered equally. Perhaps they just did a better job at hiding their pain.

It was WAAAAY worse in WW1 and WW2. Back the concept of "war crimes" was called "winning the war". The whole idea of rules in war is to keep the conflict going on forever while the central banks finance both sides. Wise up people.

I don't  speak much and like to just sit in the dark. I used to start crying for no apparent reason, now I am on meds. I started writing poems to ease my pain. My spine is a mess and the by tell me I didn't  go to mental health enough, what is enough? On active duty mental health office is the end of your career.
Oh, yes PTSD. NOBODY  understands...

You would have never known my Father was in Korean War, never spoke of it (or much of anything actually).
Different times today, attention whoreism even affects many Vets who come home and cry about things on Social Media.
