Are folks seriously concerned about this? What difference does it make if the chick is raised gender free. Don't males and females look alike?

During mating season it may be possible to differentiate the male from the female because the male often leaves muddy footprints on the back of the female after they have finished mating.

I think these birds will figure it out without human interference. Ya think the penguins in the photo need human help in order to breed? If the captive birds don't mate, their keepers will make the necessary adjustments. You don't put much faith in nature, do you?

When penguins are ready to mate, the male stands with his back arched and wings stretched. He makes a loud call and struts about to attract a female. When the penguins find a mate, they bond with each other by touching necks and slapping each other on the back with their flippers.

You missed the point, the wild ones dont need sexing, in captivity they do for breeding programmes, all they are basically doing by saying they are not asssuming gender is rendering the breeding programmes to luck of the draw.

Or if they are leaving them in a large group then the claim of them not gendering one is just another way of saying we cant be arsed and trying to score PC points on the back of it

The whole point of this is to indoctrinate children into accepting the idea of trans or genderless. Parents take their kids to the zoo and penguins are a popular attraction. The zoo didn't have to announce this non-story with a major media press release. There are likely zoo plaques or zoo workers at the exhibit that will let your children know all about the "genderless" penguin whether you want them to or not, just like the media has and their school teachers will.

I did not miss the point at all. I don't believe penguins should be kept captive for the pleasure of humans. This tread title is ridiculous and misleading. That is why I decided to comment on it.

At around three to eight years old, a penguin is mature enough to mate. Most species breed during the spring and summer. The male usually starts the mating ritual and will pick out a nice nesting site before he approaches a female.

Scarborough Sea Life Sanctuary in Great Britain. In 2014, the site managers had to administer antidepressants to their Humboldt penguins (Spheniscus humboldti) because of the stress they experienced, attributed to the British climate, so different from their natural habitat.

Why would anyone think not identifying the gender of a bird, such as a Penguin would be because it isn't PC? Saying zoologists "jumped the shark" implying they made t choice because they wanted to be politically correct is ludicrous.

It will probably take a generation, but eventually homeschooling will be the norm as it will become painfully obvious that online and distance-learning are much more efficient.

Moreover, it will end the problem of overcrowded classrooms, bullying, school shootings and also cut down on energy consumption as traveling will decrease dramatically.

The only reason it hasn’t blown up already is because the educational system is so heavily government intervened.
