I honestly think that was the number pre-Covid and the current number is much higher.

Its total nonsense to think that the unemployment rate was ever in single digits in the United States.  The number on Disability and Social Security are way higher than you could ever calculate accurately.

Furthermore, most people have useless employment and their jobs should probably be permanently eliminated at this point.  Its amusing that nobody is missing the majority of non-essential workers and that it does not really take much to keep our country running.  The non-essential workers are basically fluff for a poorly thought out economic model based upon ficitious manufactured "constant growth".
This.

All the UE number have been skewed for years. They’ve massaged the accounting process so much that the number is meaningless

Why would Jesus let a virus such as this exist?  Is he secretly trying to promote Evolution via Natural Selection again?

US weekly jobless claims total 3.169 million, bringing seven-week tally to 33.5 million Jobless claims for the week of April 26th - May 2nd totaled 3.17 million, the Labor Department reported. May 14th - Another 3 million added to the unemployment ranks, bringing the total to over 36 million, yet California and Los Angeles County tries to keep people down and unemployment with more longer 'stay at home' orders.  We think that Los Angeles County is over 20% unemployment rate, higher than the US, and that is undercounted.  But for some, who cares, as long as people stay inside 'protecting' themselves, while they are losing everything they own.  Enough is enough. Let business open.

The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 2,614,093 in the week ending May
9, a decrease of 241,467 (or -8.5 percent) from the previous week. The seasonal factors had expected a decrease of
69,880 (or -2.4 percent) from the previous week. There were 188,264 initial claims in the comparable week in 2019. In
addition, for the week ending May 9, 29 states reported 841,995 initial claims for Pandemic Unemployment Assistance
(PUA).

The advance unadjusted insured unemployment rate was 14.5 percent during the week ending May 2, a decrease of 0.4
percentage point from the prior week. The advance unadjusted number for persons claiming UI benefits in state
programs totaled 21,143,403, a decrease of 629,189 (or -2.9 percent) from the preceding week. The seasonal factors had
expected a decrease of 1,051,708 (or -4.8 percent) from the previous week. A year earlier the rate was 1.1 percent and
the volume was 1,539,086.

The highest insured unemployment rates in the week ending April 25 were in California (27.7), Michigan (23.1),
Nevada (22.0), Pennsylvania (21.2), Rhode Island (20.6), Georgia (20.2), Vermont (20.0), New York (18.6),
Connecticut (18.0), and Washington (18.0).

When/if they cut the "stimulus" checks off....will be hell to pay. The longer they push lock down the less chance the checks ever end. It would be total victory for bankrupt blue states.

April 25th you had 25.3m in benefits programmes vs 18m Continuing Claims CCs, a 40.6% difference.

To May 9th you had 22.8m CCs and 2.98 Initial Claims ICs, total 25.8m.

Adjust that up by 40.6% and you get 36.3m likely on all programmes at May 9th.

Feb Labor Force was 164.5m, so 36.3m is an unemployment rate of 22.1%.

But that does not include self employed and contractors or part time with reduced work. They have probably lost on average 20-25% of their output based on the economy shrinking 10-12% and the government and healthcare being half the economy.

So I would say the unemployment rate now is definitely 25% maybe higher.

And the unemployment numbers continues in the USA, now 42 million unemployed....

The state of employment in the U.S. took centerstage Thursday when the U.S. Labor Department released its weekly jobless claims report.

An additional 1.877 million Americans filed for unemployment benefits in the week ending May 30, exceeding economists’ estimates for 1.843 million initial jobless claims during the week. The prior week’s figure was revised higher to 2.13 million from the previously reported 2.12 million.

This week’s report marked the first time that weekly initial jobless claims came in below two million in 10 weeks. Over the past 11 weeks, more than 42 million Americans have filed for unemployment insurance.

why dems answer with pointless memes for everything is a little strange
wife and i have been in medical field since meeting in college (20+ years)
always worked
she recently lost her job (covid) but was able to collect right away (only 700.00 a week but we'll take it).
figure we both paid into it for last 20 years, may as well as we supported (funded it) all who have been collecting on it for 20+ years.

local hospitals starting to hire some back after the covid hoax, i think she'll be fine soon with job back
