2) S & W #66 4" Revolver in .357 (You can also shoot many .38's out of .357, so you have options).

3) Glock #19 9mm.

4) Just your standard AR-15  from Colt, DPMS, PSA, etc....

Some combo of those 4 choices will give you a good balance between utility, reliability, cost, and practicality if you just want a gun or two for safety.

Hitting the target with iron sights isn't a problem.  EOTechs are for fast target acquisition.

EOTech has zero magnification.  It's just for fast target acquisition which is exactly what you want in close combat.  I've had a few of them over the years and they are great.

It's no doubt one of the reasons he was able to put accurate fire on his assailants so quick.  He smoked his attackers and didn't hit any innocent bystanders.  Well done lad, well done.

You need to do some homework.

458 SOCOM is basically an AR-15 on steroids.  Similar to a 45-70, but in an AR type platform.  Increased accuracy and decreased recoil too.  Only need 1 round to put a person down for good.  I don't know of any bullet proof vests and plate carriers that can fully protect you from a 458 round, especially the higher grain penetrating rounds.

458 is really not optimal for anything farther than 150 yards, so an expensive high mag scope not necessary.  I use my Colt 6920 if my target is over 100 yards.
