The golden era guys were living the life. Ciba dbol, cheap food, Venice beach and bottoming out schmoes.

In October 1968 I got fed up with cold Vancouver and drove 1400 miles to Los Angeles. I had a VW Beetle, $200 and a Shell Credit Card. I slept in my VW for 2 weeks until two guys in Golds said I could sleep on their sofa.
In those days Golds Gym was The Mecca and heaps of bodybuilding hopefuls came to LA to hang out at the beach and train at Golds. Joe let me train there for free...he asked me how long I was going to be there. I was going
to look for a job but didn't want to risk getting deported back to Canada.
A guy at Golds had this deep tan. I asked how he got it. He told me he was a nudist. I didn't believe him until he showed me he had no white area where his bathing suit would be. I wanted to visit the nudist club in Topanga Canyon and
he said he would be there on Sunday. I went but he didn't show up. No homo here! They let me in anyway. Paid the $2 for the day. On the way to the change room this nude gal gave me a hug! I told her she was friendly and she said
that was the only way to be. Later that afternoon everyone left the pool area and went inside where a fireplace warmed the room. A guy there looked like Bob Hope. He was a libertine and actually went down on a woman there who pushed
him away. Well, the gal who gave me the hug invited me to come to The Swing in North Hollywood on Wednesday evening. I took my friend Chip Wilson with me. He was a cool, handsome dude from Chicago. That evening was a singles night
and they gave us name tags at the door. I found the gal who invited me and introduced Chip. She seemed disappointed. I guess I should have brought a gal with me! Well, it turned out there was a party on the weekend that swingers were
going to. Stewardesses and those kind of gals. Damn, I missed out on attending an orgy!
Back at Golds on the weekend I told a bloke there the story of missing out on going to an orgy. Well, he said maybe I didn't miss anything. He asked what I would have done if a guy had come up and started giving me a head job! At that moment
I realised I was rather ignorant about what goes on in LA.
I remember that at most social parties and clubs that just about everyone was smoking pot. Not me. So I thought maybe some liberated guys got to like the swinging lifestyle and all the things that go with it. Ken Sprague bought the gym partly to

Zabo was approached by a gay guy who wanted his soiled underwear. So he sent some and got paid well. The gay dude wanted more so Zabo got other guys to give their soiled underwear and everyone made a few bucks! That surely isn't G4Pay.
I doubt Ric was gay. Perhaps he was a libertine because he played in a band and women were easy for those guys. I lasted a month in LA before my $200 ran out and I drove back to Vancouver. No way I would have done any of that gay stuff
to lengthen my stay in Venice/LA.

I was never approached to do anything so it was never an issue. I ran out of money so went back home.
