i mean how is someone so disoriented and confused that they don't know to lift their hands upward with the controls/wheel in their hands and go upwards above the clouds and attempt to do so?..

Have you ever been on an airliner when it had to abort a landing in the fog. After the thrust upward, it feels like the plane is standing still even when it is making a couple 360 and reapproach. When he was heading to the ground, banking left, the G-Forces didn't even change. I'm assuming everyone felt (vestibular canal) the plane was leveled off.

Heli's are different than a large plane, but they are worse for g forces. You can change speed/direction in them faster.

We used to hunt hogs at my friends ranch from a small heli. This thing was like a Ferrari Helicopter, it was insane how fast and maneuverable it was.

Almost lost my lunch a few times when it changed directions. Like being on a steep roller coaster constantly.

I've lost my bearings driving a boat at high speeds before, i can see it being a big factor for a heli.

There was a lengthy article in New Yorker Magazine about the crash. IIRC, Kennedy and his passengers might not have had any idea that they were spiraling down to the water. No terror or suffering.

There was a picture of his uncle (just before or after identifying Jr's body) that was very sad.

RIP but I don't like the odds of flying a helicopter through mountains for 12-15 yrs without one major incident. LA is smog central so I'm sure they have flown in sub-conditions multiple times. The odds on major airlines are great but still scary when the pilot overshoots a landing and has to power up and circle around.
