Fucking Biden won’t even go
The clearly seems to be a crisis at the Boarder. Without a doubt, people hoping to immigrate either elected not to or couldn't under Trump's reign. Biden gives of a more compassionate vibe, this coupled the previous democratic policies, probably gives these folks looking for any hopeful signs the go ahead to migrate to the U.S.
The timing couldn't be worse with the pandemic and all the fear that it produces in many people. In the U.S. people are afraid that these immigrates if allow in will bring great exposure to the virus. The folks seeking to immigrate still believe this is the "land of milk and honey" and somehow coming here will make them magically safe with treatment available regardless of their circumstances.
Look back through the history of mankind and you will see that humans are nomads always seeking the opportunity for a better life for one reason or another. Heck, my wife and I move to Portland in the late 60's from L.A. because the cost of living and the quality of life was better in Portland (although the rain and winter cold was less desirable). in 1971, Governor Tom McCall invited tourists to visit Oregon, but then added "but for heaven's sake don't stay." Some might say he was a visionary. He may have been, but he was also unrealistic. After my wife and I acted as pioneers for our family, many of them followed us here from greater Los Angeles over the years for the same reasons we moved here.
Honestly, I get how unsettling it is to feel like a foreigner in one's native country. The last time I was at LAX I'd flown in from Frankfort and needed to go through customs, I couldn't determine whether I was in Asia or South American because no one working in customs looked like me or spoke English as their first language. It made me feel extremely hostile. I couldn't wait to get through customs and board the flight back to PDX.
Keeping foreigners/imigrants out of the U.S. isn't going to happen. Those who fight it are beating their heads against the wall. Of all the countries in the world the U.S. has probably been the biggest melting pot. We are a country of foreigners and have been since forever.
