If an ICU only has 22 beds, IT STANDS TO REASON that if 27 people need the ICU, it will be "overwhelmed".
Another, non-hysterical, way to put that would be:
"Pandemic results in need for five additional ICU beds."
In other words = BIG FUCKING DEAL.
No one would have gotten worked up over this madness, and we could have moved on with our lives.
Five beds isn't that big a deal. I mean, we spent a TRILLION DOLLARS - do you think that money, properly allocated, couldn't have recruited doctors and nurses to monitor the paltry increase in ICU beds that were needed?
