Former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive guard Jon Kolb was just named one of the strongest offensive linemen in NFL history by the Chris Simms' podcast on NBC Sports. At 76, (left) Kolb still lives in Pittsburgh area and runs a fitness business. He also trains wounded veterans and first responders for no charge.
•• From Owasso, Oklahoma, the Steelers drafted Kolb out of Oklahoma State in the third round in 1969.
•• I remember reading an interview he gave once in which he described his first time coming through the tunnels and seeing Pittsburgh. He said it was awesome for a boy from flat Oklahoma.
•• Kolb helped anchor the O-line through four Super Bowls.
•• An All-Pro, Kolb was named to the Steelers' Top-50 All-Time 20th Century Team
•• Twice Kolb finished fourth in The World's Strongest Man Competition, even though - at 6'2" 262 pounds - he was smaller than a lot of the other contestants
•• He was a Steelers' strenght & conditioning coach for years after he retired and still lifts and works out
•• I have his football card and met him once at the convention center in Monroeville, Pennsylvania. I was there with my dad for an Outdoors Expo and Kolb was signing autographs - for free I might add.
