Loverly Lena Horne.
Imagine when she was in her prime, she suffered many humiliations of racial prejudice, especially from hotels and restaurants that catered exclusively to whites. At one point in her career she was highest-paid African American entertainer in the United States.
Many years ago, I worked at May Co. Wilshire, which was Tom May's flagship store. Lena Horn was a regular as were a lot of other celebrities. Then in her 50's she was even more strikingly beautiful in person than she looked in photos. She was also a great customer who treated the sales staff well.
