This whole notion that people need to be shielded from 'misinformation' is insane to begin with.
The assumption is that people are incapable of thinking for themselves. And while that may be true more often than not, what makes Joni Mitchell or Neil Young the arbiter of what is good information for me vs. Bad information for me.
I can't even fathom the arrogance but I can think for myself and I'll decide what I give weight to.
I have mixed emotions on it.
On one hand, I am fully aware that there are some really ignorant people in this country. You just have to look to the Q anon issue or Jan 6th. Flat earth society and the fact Honey Booboo and Jerry Springer had "Seasons". Some people need to be guided and sheltered because like the Jonestown massacre, there really are people willing to believe anything.
On the other hand, I'm pretty fed up with people not educating themselves, and part of me wants them to learn the hard way what ignorance will cost them. But this would come at a cost I would have to pay as well if I let nature run it's course. But I think, in the end, I am leaning towards letting the chips fall where they may. I have the ability to remove myself from the chaos that may ensue from people who believed JFK Jr. was going to reappear.
