Maybe they are functional despite being ugly.
From what i understood of the procedure, after the removal of the varicose veins, circulation is assured by the saphenous vein.
I believe the saphenous vein is usually used for cardiac bypasses if needed.
If the saphenous vein is the only thing feeding blood to the leg (because of the removal of the varicose one), what will assure that in case of the need of a cardiac bypass?
Maybe the resident getbig doctors can shed some light over this.
