I think he mentioned something about being unable to walk or some physical pain issues as well as blood clots. I'm not sure what the state subsidies are where he is but if he's unable to work due to disability then he should start the claim process so at least he can feed himself. He says he's never relied on state handouts but I don't think he's got much of a choice in the matter. Either get a job - any job - or if unable to work it's time to gulp and go to the state for some kind of services.

Here in the UK people make a career out of being on benefits. I think things are a lot easier here than over where Shizzo is.

One problem is that the $841 minimum monthly allotment for an individual is not enough for anyone to live on anywhere in the U.S. On the plus side, he would then qualify for Medicare which would cover his medical expenses. He would also qualify for Section 8/Housing. However, the waiting lists are usually long. Because the Social Security Administration is backlogged, it can take up to a couple of years to qualify. By then, he'd probably be dead if his present circumstances did not change.

Panhandling is an option where he lives. He probably can't stand for any length of time. Maybe he could get a wheelchair at Goodwill. This is assuming he cannot work at all. Working in an entry level position would be an improvement over standing at a freeway entry and begging for handouts, IMO. Problem is that according to him, his 'vanity' prohibits his taking these types of jobs.

Although it is not actually biblical, the saying 'God helps those who help themselves' is relevant to his situation.

There is not much in the way of government assistance available to single folks in Florida unless they are disabled or have dependents. He is too young for Medicare, and he does not qualify for Medicaid under Florida's rules.

That's crazy if the backlog for getting accepted on benefits is years. Here in the UK I'd imagine it's probably a month? Shizzo needs to claim what he can because disability is no joke if it's preventing you from working. If like you said that'll cover his prescription fees/medication then he needs to do it whether he wants to, or not.

Entry level work in a warehouse is way better than begging in the street where someone from your past randomly sees you. Just LOL @ that conversation.
