How Are Republicans Going to Figure Out Abortion?

The vote yesterday in Ohio is a big deal. This is unlikely to mean that Ohio is suddenly going to vote Biden in 2024. But women are worked up about this and it is changing the dynamics. Should Republican presidential candidates support a nation wide ban on abortion? Should they say “leave it up to each State”, which is what is now happening, and “whatever each State decides is fine”? Or should they just try to change the subject as they have been doing? Which is the best approach if you are rooting for Republicans?

So say nothing and change the subject (which most of them are trying to do, except for the likes of Mike Pence or maybe one or two others who are very pro-life religious) or come straight out and say each state (or even each woman) should decide for themselves, which I am not seeing any of them do yet?

Far be it from me to say anything positive about Donald Trump, but he is the one who actually has the most wiggle room on this issue. He delivered the overturn of Roe v Wade!  So unlike the others, he can probably pivot in the direction of now let’s just leave it up to local jurisdictions.

All the others will continue to squirm (IMHO), except for the ones like Pence, who has been pro-life from the get-go but who has no chance whatsoever of being the nominee or the next President.
