One of my best friends growing up was well trained in BJJ, TKD, boxing and Muay Thai; we trained MT together for 7 years. He boxed in the junior Olympics. His father (and him) were Marines and his dad thought him to be a total badass.
He was an angry man who loved to fight people.
And he was ~165 at 5'8" in his mid 20's.
I remember when we would roll out to night clubs or bars in our 20's and he ALWAYS found someone to fight, it was his thing. Half the time he picked the biggest gorilla muscle head bouncer in the club and picked a fight with him.
He used to put these dudes on their asses with 2-3 kicks or punches, every, single, time. Had a mean uppercut that he landed all the time.
It was almost hilarious how he beat the piss out of dudes way heavier and even taller than him.
We sparred together for over 10 years and no matter how big and strong i got, he always let me know he was better. I'd land a good punch/kick and he'd light me up instantly with a smile on his face. He was so fast and hid his striking well, half the time i never even saw what hit me. But he backed off and played even most the time just to get in a good sparring session.
That's why i laugh at BBer's who think they can fight because they have steroid muscles. Chances are these guys don't hit half as hard as they think they do and would be out cold with one good punch from a well-trained boxer. I remember almost getting knock out cold by my friend with 16oz gloves on.
The only way to get good at fighting is to fight a lot. That's it.
Bag work is silly; if you are wanting to actually fight someone you spar.
