The irony in that comment is that Dave would want you to believe the exact opposite of what I just stated above! Lol.
He factors in a Pizzerias history massively in his scores, and is a stickler for any spot that either has a coal-fired oven, or a very old oven in general.
Dave Portnoy is a bumbling fool who should NOT be allowed to review any pizza parlor anywhere. His scores, criteria's, ratings, etc are worthless. No one remembers his scores and coal ovens/old ovens mean nothing. No one seeks out an old oven if they want pizza. No one drives around cities with a large old pizza oven map and makes their way up the coastline eating parts of history in the form of old ovens.
No one eats a slice of pizza baked in an ancient oven and sits back with wide eyes and feels enlightened from old charcoal dust. Stop with the charred nonsense. No sane person wants a hand covered in black charcoal dust and a dry, irritated mouth from charcoal. The stupid old oven takes forever at Sally’s and they are too cheap to get a larger, more modern oven. What if someone falls asleep behind the wheel and drives their car into the oven and breaks it to pieces? Good luck finding parts to rebuild it. Dave is a rambling, senile , confused lunatic who intimidates pizza shop owners and scares away customers.
