Why would you go in expecting a movie the quality of Gladiator? There will probably never be a movie in this genre as epic as Gladiator, no point even trying to compare anything to it.

It's a tough genre to do, especially a 3 hour movie with the source material. Nolans style kept things interesting enough, decent action and it looked great. The ending did something different too

His castings hasn't been great for several movies now. It is what it is, for the genre it was solid and about on par with Troy

Because it's one of the most epic directors covering an one of the most famous and epic tales ever told?  I could flip that on you - how could you NOT?

Decent action, looked great, dialogue and acting were pedestrian.

Has any well known epic ancient Greek literature as source material ever resulted in an epic movie? Gladiator doesn't count as the source material wasn't well known and it was modern writing.

Movies based on ancient Greek literature are nearly always trash. Only a handful you could call solid, and this is one of them.

This was about on the same level as Nolans most recent movies. None of those were epic either.

95% just means 95% positive.  A movie can have positive reviews overall and still have plenty of critique.

For example.

The main criticisms  include:The Dialogue: Many viewers found the modern, conversational slang and American accents jarring in an ancient Greek setting.

Or, in getbig terms - the random whore thread can have a page that has an overall positive rating, even if titusisback sprinkles in the random weird ones that aren't hot.

Overall, I just didn't find it epic or memorable.  I was expecting a lot.

It was just fine.

Yeah, when they have so much money and resources, why not attempt to do a good one, more true to the sourcematerial and something more of the general would like instead of the Woke-crowd.

I will politely disagree.  I just thought it was fine.

First off - Good Will Homer.  No accent, just Damon acting like Damon.

Second, it just wasn't really epic.  Felt like a bunch of stuff we've seen before. It looked good, but I just don't really think there were scenes that stand out - like in Gladiator, everyone remembers Crowe's speech when he reveals himself in the pit.  Damon didn't deliver anything close.  And his big boss' voice didn't match.

Thrid, overall just didn't see anything spectacular in terms of acting.  Pattinson was good, so was spiderman, but the rest were just fine.  Nothing stand out.

Matt Damon as Odysseus was the first red flag for me. He doesn't have the chops or the gravitas to be Odysseus. I'll be taking a trip to the cinema next week to watch it but I don't expect to be wowed.

Well he went looking for a structured deal with a movie studio in such a way where he'd make bank, so money was high on the priorities. Also he wanted to make Troy back in the early 00s but he got looked over. Assuming he had some unfinished business there. And I think every movie maker goes into a project wanting to make something great, why would he be any different?

The fact that every movie maker hopes to make an epic movie and in maybe 99% of cases the end result isn't an epic movie should tell you something.

Even Nolans strike rate is well below 25%
