Psychologically, what do you think is happening during "pointing finger" shots?

Typical bodybuilder thing to do. Before in the 90's and early 2000's it was more the thumbs up hand sign.

The newer generations today may do a variant of the pointing finger with a horizontal "peace" hand sign, or even with some trendsetter types can also use the "hang loose" sign with the little finger and thumb pointing in a 90 degree direction to each other.

It's just not knowing what to do with your hands during photos. Don't want to appear like an anti-social old man with the middle finger or arms to side. Too old to do the peace fingers. Can't look like a herb with your hands in your pockets. So the thumbs up, point, or finger gun is where it's at.
