my gym has one which is constantly in use - by fat people. I've tried it a couple of times and couldn't work out how it's supposed to benefit me more than other exercises.

Anyone use one and get results from it?

No.  On paper it is good and follows basic anatomy vs. function but people fuck up any benefits they could get (which is minimal) by sitting there and tugging and jerking on the handles to fold themselves over rather than using ab contraction to the path of it's more appropriate movement.

Yeah - this is what I see people doing, but to be fair, when I tried it, that's what I wound up doing too. The one at my gym seems to be built in such a way that you have to pull on the handles. I haven't worked out how to brace my upper body in a way that doesn't involve pulling them. I tried just letting my hands rest on them and crunching, but for the life of me wasn't able to maintain any kind of form. Very weird.

Try setting and bracing your entire body like you’re about to do a deadlift. Try really engaging your lats when holding the handles. Try grabbing the handles with a supinated grip and initiating the movement like you’re going to do a pullover.

Thanks - I'll give it a go because I'm curious but I'm inclined to think that hanging leg raises and cable crunches are still going to give more bang for my buck.

You're welcome.
I agree with those 2 exercises. I'm a big fan of side planks as well.

That machine is worthless !!

Just do crunches, forcibally expelling air out at the top of the movement................ .do Roman Chairs by hooking your feet under a DB rack, and eat correctly to show ab detail.

NEVER use weights when training abs, and do not work obliques.
