are you kidding?  It is still legal in most states to fire someone solely for the reason that they're gay.

regarding state taxes, only Mass and Vermont,  Conn and California in the near future.

in almost all states, you don't even have the right to hospital visitation.  no automatic inheritance.

can't sponsor your partner for immigration

while many big businesses offer their health insurance to domestic partners, all married couples get it automatically.   and all domestic partner insurance is taxed at the federal level as additional income.

there are hundreds of other benefits

The problem is, if you make the gays a "protected class", they'll be just like the blacks... walking arund with a chip on their shoulder looking to sue people at the drop of a hat, and perceiving every slight or thing that doesn't go their way as "it's because I'm gay".  ::)  Next thing you know we'll have quotas for hiring and promoting gays and for college admissions!

No thank you, we have enough "protected classes"... the only people who think this is a good idea (besides the gays themselves) are the lawyers!  This is a large part of the opposition to gay marriage... the whole agenda, not marriage itself.

How 'bout we offer the gays a deal:  we'll let you get married, tax & survivor benefits, etc, the whole ball of wax, just like hetero couples, so long as you forever drop the push to have yourselves declared a "protected class" with special priveleges who can sue people at the drop of a hat like blacks, women, and other groups can?  Sounds like a fair deal to me, but it doesn't fit your "agenda", so you'll never accept it.

the Gay Games is a sporting event held every four years since 1980.  It was founded by 1968 Olympic decathlete Tom Waddell.  The first one was called Gay Olympics, but the USOC sued.    This time it is in Chicago IL, last time was Sydney NSW.

Gays and straights are welcomed, and it is common for the team sports like softball to be mixed.  They have bodybuilding categories which are included at MuscleMemory.   They have pairs categories, both mixed and same sex.

will they have an Interior Design Decathlon? FABULOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By not having the automatic inheritance, it's likely that gays end up making themselves more knowledgeable about how the system works and as a result, make better financial decisions to that end.

Straight people have to learn more about how to protect their assets from the feds!  :)

No thank you, we have enough "protected classes"...

the problem with this line of reasoning is that black is not a protected class, race is.  Gay would not be a protected class, (actual or perceived) sexual orientation would be.

it is just as illegal to discriminate because someone is white as it is someone who is black.  And such laws have been used to protect whites from discrimination.

In California, marital status is a protected class.  That means it's just as illegal to not hire someone because they're married with a bunch of kids that will get in the way with them working long hours, as it to not hire someone because they're divorced because you think that's immoral.

Regarding quotas and affirmative action, what you don't realize is that white males have had their own affirmative action: it's called the old boy network.   You got hired to a prestigious company because you or your father knew someone in the company.   That's even true for some union jobs.   In the early days of the civil rights movement, affirmative action and quotas were necessary to counter the old boy network.   Today, the only place I know of affirmative action is at universities.  If the inner city schools were just as good as the suburban ones, we would no longer need it there.

It's not the feds that is usually the problem with gay couples.  It's blood relatives of the deceased that come in to contest the will.
