They do when someone is trying to cover their butt, and silence critics from thier not scrambling fighter jets before.
We've got the same BS happening over here as well. The other day, flight crew noticed a suspicious package, so an AirCanada jet did an emergency landing in Atlanta. The suspicious package turned out to be a box of dishes flight crews had previously misplaced.
I feel sorry for the poor SOB who still uses a windup alarm clock. Even worse, ...I know that as the public grows ever more cynical of their manipulations, ...they are going to up the ante.
This is just a wild speculative guess on my part, ...but I don't think FL is done making the news.
