John Romano and Dave Palumbo no longer with Muscular Development.
Monday began with a jolt in the small world of bodybuilding, as we learned that Dave Palumbo and John Romano, were both let go by Muscular Development. Robbie Durand has been appointed the new editor in chief of Muscular Development’s web site.
After Romano was fired by MD, he sent the following statement to PBW Radio about the situation. (John’s statement was read by Dan & Bob on the PBW’s Feburayr 2nd show).
“After 18 years of dedicated service to Muscular Development Magazine, and more recently its website, the relationship that saw me rise from a mere contributor to Senior Editor has come to – as all things inevitably do – an end. However, the end was not unforeseen. My gradually eroding confidence in the manner in which business was being conducted, and the decisions that were being made, painted a very telling picture of things to come. Clearly, the direction the magazine and website are now headed counter my beliefs, not to mention those of my radio partner, and former Editor-in-Chief of the Muscular Development.com, Dave Palumbo. As you all probably know, Dave’s relationship with MD also ended today. The manner in which the end unfolded was rather unfortunate, but not unexpected. It evinced quite accurately the evolving attitude of Muscular Development.
I am very grateful to Steve Blechman for the opportunity he has afforded me over the years and I wish him and his future endeavors much success. To all my fans and loyal readers and listeners now decrying the gigantic whole I left in MD, rest assured - You ain’t seen nor heard the last of me…..” - John Romano
I really enjoyed listening to both John & Dave. I hope Shawn & Flex do a great job for the MD audio show.
Ah that sucks, I liked those two! It will be hard to match the “hardcore” element that these two added but maybe Blechman wants to take a different turn with the magazine to compete with Flex better and a much improved MuscleMag.
We will follow Dave & John wherever they go!! They were the only reason we bought the magazine & went to MD online. Looking forward to seeing where they end up. You guys ROCK and we look forward to seeing what you do next.
I will really miss Dave and John. I can’t imagine any other two people on MD No Bull Radio. If Blechman thinks that Shawn Ray and Flex Wheeler will do half the job that these two did he is highly mistaken!

The fact of the matter is, dave palumbo and john romano helped put MD on the map. Think about it, Dave Palumbo gave knowledge and Romano gave the entire MD colour. I cannot imagine an issue of MD without the Romano Factor or the anabolic freak. The only thing left is Flex Wheeler covering shows and Shawn ray’s recollections.

Dave Palumbo Iz the best Nutritionist of all tym N John Ramano Didnt pull NE Punches, Thm 2 R the only people tht cud mak tht show work, the only otha 2peple I wud listen 2 if they hosted that show wud B Greg Valintino & Jimmy Pellechia but it still wudnt B the same without Dave & John, and theres no way I wud listen 2 Shawn and Flex. Incidentally: Why Palumbo doesn’t top the list of every “dead pool” in the world, I’ll never know. Christ, if the purple head and neck doesn’t tell you it’s not a matter of “if,” not “when,” I don’t know what else could.
At the time I bought my last issue of MD, I had no idea that it would be my last. You all can debate and hate all day long…but everyone seems to be missing the big picture.
Hardcore bodybuilding seems to be on the down turn. As visitors to GetBig.com, most if not all of you have done your time under the iron. Bodybuilders one and all. We built the “fitness” industry. But, in a twisted turn of fate, we’ve become the enemy. No longer welcome in our own hallowed halls because we scare or intimidate the fat masses that seem to outnumber us all everywhere. I’ve seen it, watched as my own gym and those nearby succombed to the lure of the all mighty dollar. The music has changed, and so has the feeling. Back in the day, the music blasted over the speakers and everyone was there to encourage and push one another…a twisted kind of “fellowship”. I fear those days are gone.
Palumbo and Ramano came from an era were Bodybuilders ruled the land, which they reflected in their style. Frankly, I efffin liked that style. We are who we are, no apologies. I will miss it, just like I miss the comraderie I once found in the gym.
Romano and Palumbo made MD interesting but in no way are they the driving force behind MD, Steve Blechman gave them a career and a voice, If they succeed outside of MD it will be because of the opportunity and exposure Blechman gave them. If you will not buy MD because they are gone you area a close minded Retard. I met John Romano on a plane to the Arnold Classic when Shelly Beaty was competing. The was an arrogant pompous asshole plain and simple. His wife was very nice and cordial… But he acted like his shit didnt stink. I will miss Dave Palumbo’s column but Romanos columns for the past year have been nothing but drivel bullshit with very little related to bodybuilding…. I would much rather read Valentino’s articles or Lee Priest, at least Lee Priest has made it as an IFBB pro and not just a hangar on to the industry like Romano.

Before this show ever started I was devoted to PBW with Bob Chicerello and his sidekick Dan, when Dave and John came on the scene I became more a fan of their talk show because it was candid, off the wall sometimes, funny, entertaining, and they did a great job of covering all the latest bodybuilding news including contests, supplements, rumors, and what was going on with who at the time… Dave and John’s show literally made me laugh out loud at times and I gotta say I much prefer their show over any other bodybuilding show cos they really did a good job at entertaining their fans while at the same time keeping us fans informed. I doubt that Shawn and whoever comes along can replace the chemistry and comaraderie that Dave and John braught to the table, I am definetly going to miss these guys.
