Everyone’s Invited! Bodybuilding.com Announces Free 2010 Arnold Classic & Internationals Webcast

Boise, ID – February 8, 2010 – Bodybuilding.com, the Internet’s most-visited bodybuilding and fitness site and largest retailer of nutritional supplements, is once again offering a free all-access webcast featuring the 2010 Arnold Classic men’s professional bodybuilding championships and the Women’s professional bodybuilding, figure and fitness International championships.

Bodybuilding.com hosts Dan Solomon and Bob Cicherillo will provide live on-stage and backstage coverage of these ground-breaking events. Those unable to tune in live will be able to access webcast replays and additional event coverage on Bodybuilding.com until March 20, 2010.

The Arnold Classic is an annual competition named after Arnold Schwarzenegger, originating in 1989 with help from friend, Jim Lorimer. Today, it is the most lucrative competition in bodybuilding, with a number of large prizes and serious bragging rights for the year. Defending champion Kai Green and Dexter Jackson (winner in 2005, 2006 and 2008), are among a field of 12 male bodybuilding pros who will battle it out for the coveted Arnold Classic crown. Over 50 leading women will be taking the stage including bodybuilders Dayana Cadeau and Iris Kyle, fitness athletes Adela Garcia and Tanji Johnson and figure competitors Monica Brant and Nicole Wilkins Lee.

The Arnold Classic is now part of an even bigger event, The Arnold Sports Festival. This event hosts the largest multi-sport festival in the nation with more than 18,000 athletes competing in 44 different sports and events and a three day expo featuring top industry celebrities promoting all the latest health and fitness products. Although those at home may not be able to experience this portion of the event, they will be able to enjoy the free Bodybuilding.com Webcast of the IFBB (International Federation of Bodybuilding) Pro Shows.

The 2010 Arnold Classic will be webcast live from Veteran’s Memorial Auditorium in Columbus, Ohio. You can watch the Ms. International, Ms. Fitness International and Ms. Figure International at 7:00 pm EST on Friday, March 5th. Tune in the next day, Saturday, March 7th at 12:00 pm for Men’s Prejudging and again at 7:00 pm EST for the Men’s Finals. For more Arnold Classic competition information visit: http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/2010-arnold.htm.

“The Arnold Classic is one of my favorite events. I’m very excited we are able to webcast it live on the Internet for free, so that fans from all around the world can experience the show,” says Bodybuilding.com CEO Ryan DeLuca.

The first IFBB pro contests of the 2010 season are almost upon us, and in the Men’s Bodybuilding contest, it is shaping up to be a good battle between some seasoned competitors. Whereas there are always surprises on who is going to be competing, the top 4 look like it is going to be Melvin Anthony, Troy Alves, Toney Freeman and Hidetada Yamagishi, not necessarily in that order.

Troy Alves is the hometown favorite, since he lives in Phoenix and owns his own supplement and training store there. Troy will definitely be ready for this contest, as he has learned from his mistakes from last years 11th placing at the Ironman, and moved up to win the IFBB Orlando Show of Champions, and place 3rd at the IFBB Atlantic City Pro. We won’t talk about the 2009 Olympia though. Still, fans are predicting that Troy is going to take this show and prove to everyone he is the best to start the season.

Melvin Anthony also is training hard right now, staying with Dennis James, who is making sure Melvin will be ready for this contest. We just heard Melvin Anthony on Pro Bodybuilding Radio last Monday night discussing his preparation for the contest, and we know his posing routine (which won’t count in the scoring this season) will be great. Can Melvin take this show and win it? Of course he can. While Troy beat Melvin at the IFBB Atlantic City Pro last year by one placing, it was Melvin that placed ahead of Troy at the 2009 IFBB Olympia.

Hidetada Yamagichi continues to improve his physique, and this year may be the time in which Hide will surpass the others. Hidetada placed second last year at both the IFBB Orlando Pro Show of Champions and the IFBB Atlantic City Pro, but also beat Melvin Anthony and Troy Alves at the IFBB Olympia, making it into the coveted top 10 rankings of the best bodybuilders in the world. No one should underestimate Hideatada at this contest.

Toney Freeman, based on rankings, is probably the best bodybuilders that will be on the stage in Phoenix, coming from an 8th place finish at the 2009 IFBB Olympia and a win at the 2009 IFBB Sacramento Pro. So why are people doubting that Toney is going to win this contest? They shouldn’t, as Toney has proved time and time again that his physique and muscularity should dominate the contest. Toney is the favorite here, based on a myriad of fans responses.

There are others who can place and surprise everyone, including Johnnie Jackson and Quincy Taylor, both who can be really on, or just miss their conditioning. Others who plan on competing include DeShaun Grimez, Neil Hill, Mike Libertore, Mehmet Yildrim, Stan “The White Rhino” Efferding, Daniel Hill, Andy Haman, and Con Demetriou. An official list should be out soon.

FLEXonline.com reports that Silvio will skip the 2010 Arnold Classic for the first time in four years. He tells FLEX…

“I will take a break to put on the size I need to put on,” Samuel said. “I wanted to do the Arnold Classic, but after more thought I do not believe that competing so soon after the Olympia is in my best interest. In order to make the impact I want to make, I want to make some improvements this year.”

“The Olympia was not the result I would have liked,” he said. “It’s painful when you do not place where you hope. I do not blame anybody, but I was not happy with where I finished. I will take the time to improve and make sure I am better the next time I compete at the Olympia.”

For Immediate Release

(November 13, 2009 – Oxnard, California) Iron Man Magazine Publisher John Balik reported today that the Pro Fight Supplements Iron Man Pro bodybuilding contest, originally slated to take place on Saturday, January 23, 2010, is being rescheduled for an as of yet undetermined date. The contest, which celebrated its 20th Anniversary in 2009, is one of the longest running IFBB Pro shows in the world.

For the last six years, the Iron Man Pro has been held in conjunction with The Bodybuilding.com Los Angeles Fitness Expo, produced by National Fitness Productions. With over 20,000 attendees, 250 exhibitors, and an incredible line-up of fitness, physique, martial arts and strength contests, it is one of the country’s largest and fastest growing consumer fitness expos.

“The Expo has been a huge success and is growing every year” said Balik. “But when it was held in late February, two weeks before the Arnold Classic to accommodate the Iron Man Pro, some companies just couldn’t exhibit at it. Shipping their booths coast-to-coast and asking their staff to work back-to-back expos was just too much for some of them.”

So when National Fitness Productions elected to move the Expo to the third weekend in January last year, dozens more companies were able to come out from the Midwest and East Coast to exhibit. However, as Balik noted, “for the pro bodybuilders, it meant having to train and diet through the holiday season and then try to peak again six weeks later for the Arnold and other IFBB contests that follow it.”

“And in spite of the huge crowds that attend the Expo and the myriad of sponsors that support it, ticket sales to the Iron Man Pro continue to decline, making it a challenge to produce the contest profitably.”

Balik added, “The quality of the athletes is the cornerstone of any events success. The rich twenty year history of the Iron Man Pro is the direct result of the wonderful IFBB athletes who have supported it. From the first winner, Shawn Ray, to the 20th, Silvio Samuel, and the current Mr. Olympia, Jay Cutler, the list of champions is a who’s who of IFBB Pro Bodybuilding.”

Balik went on to say he is investigating alternative dates and venues at which to hold the Iron Man Pro, either in late February just prior to the Arnold Classic, or perhaps in May around the time of the New York Pro Show.

Moving the Contest to either of these time slots would mean the bodybuilders could gear their training and dieting for multiple shows on back-to-back weekends, giving them chances for multiple paydays and Mr. Olympia qualifying finishes. In turn, the deeper line-ups will hopefully draw more fans to the contests which would be good for the promoters, the sponsors and the sport.

 *************************

The Pro Fight Supplements Iron Man Pro is produced by Iron Man Magazine and presented by Gaspari Nutrition.

The Bodybuilding.com Los Angeles Fitness Expo, produced by National Fitness Productions and presented by Gaspari Nutrition, will be held Saturday and Sunday, January 23-24, 2010 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, 1201 South Figueroa Street, South Halls G & H. It will feature the Gaspari Nutrition All-American Strongman Contest, the Con Cret USPF American Cup Powerlifting Meet, Scot Mendelson’s Bench Press Classic, the Champion Nutrition MaxReps Contests, the Gracie National Jiu Jitsu Championships and the Bodyspace Spokesmodel Search. For a complete schedule and ticket information visit www.thefitexpo.com.
