About the ABA

Introduction: The Amateur Bodybuilding Association (ABA) is an association that was formed in 1989. The ABA is strongly dedicated and committed to serving the athletes. In doing so, there are two National Athlete Representatives, one for the men and one for the women. These representatives take suggestions and comments from competitors directly to the committee. It is the fastest growing natural organization in the world.

We welcome you to the ABA because NATURAL competitions is the way of the future in the 21st century. Our motto is 'Serving the Athletes', we listen to you and your needs. The ABA wants to provide an enjoyable and competitive forum with a quality reputation. Chosen #1 by Natural Athletes: The ABA is chosen by the natural athletes worldwide as the leader of natural competitiveness. With just over 5,000 athletes registered competitors in bodybuilding and fitness throughout the world, and 95% are from the United States. Much recognition has been collected in national fitness publications such as MuscleMag International, Muscular Development, Ironman, Muscle & Fitness, and also in television shows such as MTV Sports, Prime Ticket, ESPN, Hard Copy, Montel Williams and local cable networks.

As a natural athlete, you deserve the best. Judging, testing, awards, contests, recognition in the world, natural requirements, professional natural, no politics, and to be able to compete to be a member of Team USA, which competes overseas internationally.


Classes: In the ABA, there are two divisions, the Novice (Beginners) division, and the Open (Unlimited) division. Each division is divided into classes, 4 for the men, and 3 for the women. The classes are arranged by height. For the men, the height classes are 5'7" & under, 5'7" to 5'9", 5'9" to 5'11", and 5'11" & above. For the women, the height classes are 5'2" & under, 5'2" to 5'5". and 5'5" and above. All beginners start in the Novice division. To be eligible to compete in the Open division, you must win the overall title in a contest in the Novice division.

Drug Testings: The Amateur Bodybuilding Association and the Professional Natural Bodybuilding Association feature drug tested contests. All athletes must take a polygraph test by our certified paleographer. East test is good for two calendar months from the day of the test. We also do random urine tests to keep the athletes honest. Different drug free contests can range from two years to a lifetime commitment. If the athlete fails the test, that athlete has only one more chance to redo the test.


International Recognition: The ABA and 15 other countries have united to form the INBA for the opportunity to compete internationally for the following contests. The World Cup, International Forever Natural, the World, the Universe, and the Natural Olympia. During the last weekend in October, the annual USA Natural Championships determines the 'Team USA' which travels the following week overseas to compete.

ABA's 'Team USA' has dominated these competitions and have a great reputation worldwide in countries such as Australia, France, Germany, Greece, Japan, Switzerland, Canada and New Zealand, to name a few. To be on Team USA, you must have competed in an ABA show in that year and have placed in the top three in your division. Then you must compete in the USA Bodybuilding Championships in October, which at that time, the Team USA will be picked, consisting of 10 men, 2 women, 2 physically challenged (1 standing, 1 wheelchair) and 1 Ms. Fitness USA women to represent the USA internationally.

The ABA and Kakos Production have registered the ultimate natural competition, the Natural Olympia. This contest will be bring together the best of the best, of all organizations to compete with media coverage around the world. We will be working with 15 other countries and the Greek Olympic Committee, to bring natural athletes together, where the original natural athletes gathered in Olympia, Greece.


Awards: Over the past years, athletes have requested 5,7 and 10 foot trophies. The ABA awarded these and more. Broad swords, $300 elegant Physique Statues, Championship Belts, Embroidered jackets and $1,000 Solid Gold Rings. The ABA Solid Gold Championship Rings have your name and 'Natural ABA Champion' engraved on it. You must have competed in at least two shows in the ABA during the current year to qualify for the ring. This ring you will wear proudly as it proclaims that you are the best of the dedicated athletes competing in the ABA and Natural Bodybuilding.

You also have a chance to win a prestigious ABA Embroidered Jacket at the Nationals. With this jackets, it states that you are a natural bodybuilder with the ABA and proud of it. Also this year, the ABA gives out a Championship Belt with a 6' Natural Champion Medallion on it, plus the date and title of the show with your name on it to the winners of specific shows.


First Natural Organization from Hawaii to New York: ABA is the fastest growing Natural organization in the world. We have shows from Honolulu to Manhattan, also growing internationally in Greece, Canada, and Central America.

Oakland Raiders Support: The Oakland Raiders organization has chosen the ABA to have an annual natural bodybuilding contest to represent their commitment to drug free sports. At the event, entitled the Silver & Black Bodybuilding competitions, each winner will receive an autographed poster with their trophy.

ABA & the Physically Challenged: The ABA was the first to promote contests for wheelchair and standing physically challenged athletes to compete in bodybuilding.

Olympic Recognition: The ABA is the first natural organization to be working with the Greek Olympic committee to bring natural bodybuilding to the Olympic games.

Natural Fitness & Muscle Magazine: The ABA is publishing it's very own magazine titled 'ABA Natural Fitness & Muscle Magazine'. All athletes competing in the shows will be in the magazine, along with interesting and informative articles, upcoming events and other regular features designed to assist you in the sport. Be sure to ask for it at competitions!

ABA is staring back up Men's Natural Fitness: Men's fitness is returning back to the ABA due to popular demand. Three rounds will be judged. An evening wear, a swimsuit and a fitness round. Prize money will depend on the number of contestants. The top three of the qualifiers will get a chance to compete in the finals in December at the Universe in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Popularity of the ABA: Amateur ABA, Professional PNBA and International INBA competitors may use props while performing their posing routines during the finals competition. This liberal decision allows the athlete to be creative and similar to a quest poser since the majority of the judging is completed and the finals is ore of a performance for relatives and friends. The audience and athletes love it. The ABA believes that if people pay good money to see a contest, they should enjoy themselves and never have a dull moment. The ABA, PNBA and INBA will allow women to wear thongs during competition due to the fact when competing in the World Championships abroad, competitors of other countries wear them.

Registration Fee: Every athlete competing in either ABA or PNBA must become a member of their respected association and will received a free T-shirt. The ABA membership is $35, and good for one year of the date joined. The PNBA membership is $100 which expires on the last day of the year, December 31st.
