Dennis James: Out On Bail March 1, 2004

Here is a new Dennis James Update: Dennis is out on bail, released from a jail in the city of Bangkok. (He lives in Pattaya). His appearance at the 2004 Arnold Classic expo obviously will not happen, as he was supposed to be at the Weider and Muscletech booths. According to sources, the only charge right now against Dennis is for the package that he signed that contained 18 hits of Ecstasy. And 15 is what many consider ok to have in Thailand. That is why you should never jump to conclusions on anything until you receive more information. By the time you read this, Dennis will be back home to his wife and daughter. His team of lawyers are working to clean everything up so that Dennis can live in peace.

The story goes to say that Dennis was accused of sellings drug (not steroids, but recreational) in Thailand. That is all we know for sure until all of the facts come in. But the stories so far on the airwaves and bulletin boards is as follows, although we don't know if this is factual at all, or exactly what is going on in these type of investigations. Story #1: A package came from Germany to Thailand to the gym where Dennis works out of. He sold the gym a while back. Inside the package was around 2 kits of GH, and 18 hits of Ecstacy. Obviously, this was for Dennis' own use as it is very little. However, from what I've heard, the laws in Thailand are if you get more than 15 hits of Ecstasy at one time, then you are considered a distributor of drugs. Again, all opinion, not factual. Dennis is said to have signed for the package at the gym, and since the DEA was watching him for other reasons or perhaps this reason, they put him in handcuffs, supposedly arrested him and led him away. In Thailand, if you sign for a package, then you can be responsbile for what is in the package. Thai laws can dictate the death sentence for narcotic distribution or life in prison. I am not sure if this was USA DEA, or internation Thailand DEA. As far as I know, steroids are legal in Thailand. But for drugs, there is no tolerance above a certain level. It looks like Dennis has hired a good lawyer who will argue that of course this was for his own use, and he never intended to deal it, since it was so little in the package. There are still questions as to why there were 18 hits instead of the maximum 15 hits in the package. Was it a setup? Did the people in Germany not know the laws in Thailand? But in time, more should be know. So before we go accusing Dennis of drug dealing, all he probably did was just wanting to have a good time for himself at his home. Most likely, he was just caught in a setup / sting, and hopefully, should only get probation. Currently, Dennis was taken to Bangkok, where he sits in jail. Story #2: The DEA from the USA have been working closely with the DEA from Thailand and were watching Dennis James on drug charges stemming from a few years ago, to perhaps drug charges now. Because he perhaps sold steroids into the United States, or had recreational drugs, he was arrested and is being extradited to the USA to stand trail here, because he is an American citizen. Story #3: Dennis was been receiving packages from many countries for the past few years, especially Germany. The DEA from Thailand caught wind of it, and since Dennis is a high profile bodybuilder in Thailand, they were screening each package that came in. Deniss made sure he knew of the rules of what can legally be brought into Thailand and what cannot. Why would he ever jeaporadize his new Muscletech contract? His existing Weider contract? He just got married two years ago. He has a daughter and a wonderful wife. They are building their dream home, one which he has been saving up for 5 years to do. All of this sound very fishy to me...
