I also have some older stuff. This oil on canvas, landscape was painted by Phil Donneson in 1881. My grandfather bought it while he was in school in Glasgow in the early 1900's. It has been around the world, so to speak.
After graduating dental school, he took a position in Cape Town, South Africa as a dental surgeon. Several years later, he returned home with his family to Ann Arbor, MI to work as a professor at Michigan University dental school and later as dean.
The frame is warped which adds character and shows it's antiquity. I inherited it from my Aunt who lived in Bronxville N.Y. Now it hangs over the piano in the living room. I doubt it is worth much since I can find no information about the artist.
