Gavaugh Street-Hillerich, 23, was recorded intentionally setting fire to a large dumpster near the exterior of the police precinct on June 26, 2020.

If you are referencing the situation in Portland, I don't think it was so much about cracking down or not as it was about federal interference. The only justification I can see for sending in Federal troops was because it was a federal building, in which case the troops should have stood their ground on that property and not go around the city chasing protesters down to arrest or detain them (some say kidnap them). Trump was setting a dangerous precedent. Their presence actually made matter worse because the violence escalated.
